Personal Fan of the Personal Fan4
This is a great fan to have on your desk, thats where I use it. It has two speed settings and speed 1 is plenty. But when you get hot days in the office speed 2 does the job for myself and the person sitting next to me. I have only had this for a month but nothing has gone wrong and it runs nice and quite.

I'm a fan of this fan5

I needed a good fan that would push air around a room that tends to get pretty hot and stuffy, especially in the summer. Our AC ducts need a lot of work, so I purchased this fan until we can afford to get it done. I think we found a good solution for the time being.

First, we have about 3 different types of fans in our house; Power House 18-Inch 2,900 CFM 3-Speed High Velocity Stand Fan, Power House 92000 20" HIGH VELOCITY STAND FAN, and the Lasko 20 inch box fan. The Powerhouse fans both do a pretty good job of moving air around. But I still needed something better, particularly in this AZ heat. The Lasko box fans are good if you want a gentle breeze. However, if your room is hot, you're wasting time, energy and money running it. A homemade paper fan would probably yield the same type of result.

I decided to give the LASKO 30 In. Oscillating Industrial Fan a try. Let me tell you, this blows the other ones away. Good solid construction, easy to operate, nice design.

There are a couple of drawbacks. First, it is pretty loud. And this is coming from someone that does not really mind loud fans. You have a hard time hearing over it.

Also, the footprint on this is pretty big. This is not a portable fan nor is it meant to be moved around. Wherever you place this is pretty much where it will end up staying.
The base itself is very large, so it will take up a considerable large amount of space.

The assembly on this was a nightmare. I received mine with missing screws. When I opened the box, some were loose, at the bottom of the box. I found a couple of nuts and washers in the creases of the box. After turning the box over and carefully inspecting the seams and folds, I was still missing an important screw and washer. I was really disappointed about that.

I also found the instructions a bit confusing. There are really only about 4-5 basic steps to the assembly, but the way the directions are outlined it seems to not be spelled out as clear as it probably could. I think attaching the column to the motor fan head was a bit puzzling. But the worst was attaching the front grill. What a pain in the neck! I received mine and the grill was sorta warped and did not fit together straight on. Add to that the fact that you have to "hook" the grills together --- boy what work that was! luck getting yours in better shape sans delivery. Though I will say, the hook thing was in and of itself difficult, and adding the warped grills exasperating. I think Lasko should consider redesigning to attach a little differently.

I think this most likely requires two people to assemble, particularly when attaching the fan motor to the column. It is very heavy!

Despite the problems we experienced putting it together, I still rate the fan itself 5 stars. The amount of air it expels is all worth the pitfalls we encountered. The wind is nice and cool. It oscillates very nicely and is easy to operate.
Overall, we a very happy with this fan.

We love the Lakso 30 in. oscalliting fan. It does the job that we want it to do. I would highley recommend the fan.

Easy Install; Looks Great; A bit Dim4
This is a great looking light -far better than the plastic lights on the market and I like the rectangle design better than the circular ones.

The installation instructions were well written with 4 sets of instructions depending on your scenario (new construction/replacing an existing fan etc.) I was replacing an existing fan.

You will need Three-conductor NM cable running to a double switch to utilize the full functionality of this fan (contains both red and black "hot" wires) so that you can power on the nightlight (1) Then the fan/main light (2) via a double light switch. If you have a standard 3 wire cable (one black hot), you can just skip the nightlight and have your fan and light run on the single switch.

I have two switches wired, but had no use for the nightlight-a small std nightlight sized bulb required. I prefer to have the fan run separately from the main light, because I like to leave the fan on when I'm out of the room sometimes to keep air moving etc. So, You can just route the hot red to either the fan or the light, and the hot black to the other and leave the nightlight unwired, or just couple it with one or the other, but leave its bulb out. Both setups get routed to the same white (return). The directions assume you want the fan and main light on together and the color coding of the wires can make it tricky if you stray from that plan-especially working in a tight space reaching up to the ceiling. I installed alone, and it's a bit of a juggling act trying to keep the unit up while threading wire caps-so I recommend a buddy to help hold the case.

I was able to install two standard CFL bulbs (energy efficient curly ones). I recommend those instead of the smaller A15 incandescents. The cover is a thick opaque glass, and it doesn't allow a lot of light through. I have CFL's, so that doesn't help either, but I must agree it is a bit dim. I have another light in the room, so not an issue for me.

The glass cover has two metal rods attached in parallel and they fit into a harness that requires a push up, then over; then it locks down (with gravity into a groove). It can come loose, but it would take a forceful "up and over" push to accidentally knock it down, and it can be installed incorrectly increasing this risk. I would recommend not using this fixture if you have a lot of activity (horseplay/teenage boys?) or a low ceiling. My bathroom ceiling has a slope to it; I was fortunate to inadvertently install it in the direction where the slope benefits the locking mechanism, but if I had reversed the middle platform mounting, I would have a high risk of the cover slipping as described in another post.

Overall it's a nice attractive light; The fan is nice, powerful and quiet; light is a bit dim due to cover thickness and there is a chance of the cover coming off if installed incorrectly, on a slope or if pushed abruptly.

Looks and works good, but dim light4
This light works good, I really like the looks, but the light output in very dim...could be due to frosted glass I am guess....Works good in my guest bath as it is small...The dim light is made up by my vanity mirror lights. Would not recommend as a primary light, works best as a night light, would work good for a soft light for maybe a tub soak or such as long as others light were around to brighten the room when needed, and for looks and the fan.

Modern, minimal look ceiling fan4
Bought this for our home as we disliked most of the elaborate wooden/brass colonial looking fans which are available. Has three speed settings, the fastest of which didn't shift quite as much air as I thought but certainly adequate. Be aware that it hangs at least a foot down from the ceiling on it's axle so I wouldn't recommend for a ceiling height much less than ours (9ft) It's a good deal at this price, although their customer support is poor (left a message for a call back after a 10 minute wait on the line and got no response)

Great low cost industrial fans4
We have a small company that had issues with heat going into our high ceilings. These have seemed to help alot when it comes to pushing the heat down.

Bright, Energy Efficient5
Despite the sketchy instructions, the light kit was easy to install on a Hunter fan that I purchased locally. My guess is that people with little experience with wiring and light fixture installation may need some help from someone who is handy. When I installed the fan I did end up calling Hunter's help line with a wiring question. I was on hold for a long time, but when I did get through, the agent was helpful and knowledgeable. Don't forget that there is a pull-chain switch on the fan itself. I turned on the light at the wall switch, and for a few minutes could not figure out why it didn't work.

Excellent Light Kit5
I ordered 2 of these light kits. First one arrived and the Hunter box packed inside had been previously opened. Fortunatly all the parts were there and intact. Installed both lights without incident. Plan on eventually getting 3 more for the rest of my ceiling fans.

This is also an excellent price from Amazon. Many company's are selling the exact same light kit for well over $100.00.

Good features, light buttons a bit fiddly4
If you have a ceiling fan with a light that you'd like to control without fiddling with the little chains and without the expense of wiring a wall switch, this is a great product. Installing the remote receiver in the fan base can be a bit tight, but it's fairly straightforward as long as you are comfortable with basic wiring. Once you have it set up, you can still switch the light on and off at the wall switch, even with the remote holder in place - a very good feature in case you lose the remote in the dark. The remote itself can either live in its holder over the regular wall switch or be anywhere else in the room. The fan buttons are very easy to operate (three speeds and off). There are two light buttons (smaller and fiddlier than they needed to be): one turns the light on at full and dims if you keep it pressed, the other starts the light on dim and brightens, both will toggle the light on / off if pressed briefly. This is a significant advantage over the otherwise similar Hunter 27185 / 27187 Hunter Fan 27185 Light Remote Control remote which will only turn on at full brightness.

One problem4
We purchased this fan 4 years ago, and it has been wonderful. Still does not make a sound when running. The finish on it is beautiful - no faux wood look. The only drawback to this fan is the shades. They are paper, and after time, they dry out and actually start to shrivel and crack. I'm afraid that they could actually become a fire hazard.

We moved recently and took this fan with us. We were not able to re-use the shades, so I started looking for replacements... that was nearly impossible, since the fan requires a socket ring shade. I have found some, just none that I want to spend my money on. When I called Hunter to see if they had any adaptable shades, they said no, but they would send me free replacements. I received them several weeks ago, and yesterday, I noticed that one of the new ones is starting to dry-out and shrivel already. I may need to get smaller bulbs with less wattage. I am already using 40w ceiling fan bulbs...

I know this sounds like a lot of complaints for one ceiling fan, but the look of the fan makes this con well worth it for me.

We chose this fan because the style and colors really went well in our kitchen. No disappointments, although you should be aware that the lampshades are much more yellow in color than they appear in the stock photo. Also, a few reviewers were concerned about the lamp shades being fragile because they are made of kraft paper. Ours are paper on the outside, but more of a plastic material on the inside. Durability? It's a ceiling fan for crying-out-loud. I installed it above my kitchen table; it isn't going anywhere. Great buy.

Quiet and cool5
I believe this product is being discontinued, so the price was wonderful for a full-size, very nice fan. In fact, I ordered a second one for another room. The only change I would make would be having the medium speed a bit slower.

Great quiet fan with innocuous looks5
I bought this fan for my living room. I wanted something that would blend into the ceiling because the other colors and lights in the living room were already "obvious". I'm using this with the white side of the blades down and a 3-speed in-wall control with no light kit and no chains hanging down from the fan.

The fan is fantastic--I've had it for about 4 months and it's completely silent, even on the high setting. It has no hint of wobble and mounts relatively close to the ceiling, unlike some other fans that have a bit more of a drop rod.

I bought 5 new ceiling fans this year, so I have something to compare this too and I love this fan, especially for the low price.

Very impressed with this fan. Installed yesterday in my bedroom. Some fans hum when powered on. This is quiet. The fan does not wobble on the highest speed. Have a Hampton Bay in a different room. It wobbles and hums.
Will only buy Hunter brand ceiling fans in the future.

Good product except for some screws that were missing4
I have been buying Hunter fans for over 45 years. It's a great product, very quiet and does a fine job. The only problem was that a few screws were missing and I had to use some from my own for the connections. I would also have preferred if I was able to register the product online instead of mailing my warranty.

REALLY CLASSY FAN4
We saw several versions of this fan from different companies so we took a chance on this one knowing Hunter was a good brand. Like all our other Hunter fans...this one did not disappoint. It is beautiful and works flawlessly. Took about 90 minutes to install (we had to re-cut a hole in the ceiling) otherwise it probably would take 30 minutes. We are very pleased and "cool".

Great fan and supper quite!5
The Royal Oak 60 inch fan is so quite you will hardly note that it is running. Unilke my previous fans where you hear a rhythm of off and on, you hear nothing from the motor with the Royal Oak. Only on the high setting you will hear the fan blades. I used a 60 inch down rod and their is no vibration. The installer was amazed at the fans balance. The fan moves a high volume of air.

I just installed 2 Hunter 23688 Royal Oak 60-inch New Bronze fans in my living and family room which both are 2-story (15') ceilings. I used a 48" downrod on both and each runs very quiet without any vibration. The remotes can be set at different frequencies so you will not have a problem with both fans being controlled by one remote. The down draft is very good and I have yet to use the high setting since the mid-range is enough. I have Hunter fans in all of the bedrooms (4) and I am very satisfied with the product and would gladly recommend them. Also, the price on Amazon was about $80 cheaper than the price at my local electrical store.

Really nice looking fan that works great. Absolutely quiet and remote control works great. Perfect for a large room. Really moves some air on the high setting. I installed it on a high vaulted ceiling with a 24" down rod. Looks really sharp. I would recommend this fan.

This is a nice looking, well made fan. I was concerned about buying this, or any other fan, because I have a sloped ceiling (only 1.5" in 12") and I couldn't tell from specs whether this would mount with the short down-rod (supplied) properly on a pitched ceiling. I wanted to use the short downrod due to limited ceiling height. No problem - the fan mounted fine with the short rod. It is quiet & moves air well - I am using in a 3 season porch 12x20.

Great Ceiling Fan5
Unlike the other reviewer, I did not find it particularly hard to install. I have installed 3 ceiling fans during the past 2 months, and 2 of them were Hunter ceiling fans. Other than the fact that this one is quite heavy being a 54-inch fan, there was nothing that gave me a hard time during the installation. If you have a traditional style living room or bedroom, this fan will look great. It takes candelabra-base bulbs, and with four 40W incandescent bulbs our living room seemed kinda gloomy. So we switched to 60W equivalent CFL bulbs. These were regular spiral CFLs with candelabra base. They fit inside the shades without much clearance, so it does not look like any CFL will work. Anyway, we are very satisfied with this purchase, and this fan has drawn a lot of compliments from our guests.

My wife really liked the looks of this fan. It is sharp, more unique than most fans. It's working well so far, giving off decent light and cooling well with the large blades. While I'm no handyman, this took a little extra time to put together, needing to stray a little from the written directions. Would recommend to others.

Nice fan but...4
The fan is an overall nice purchase. I agree with the previous comments that it does not shed enough light but this is not a problem unless the light fixture is intended as the primary light source for a room. My only complaint relates to the light shades. They are advertised as being made of fabric. Unfortunately, the shades are merely a heavy paper product and this lack of quality detracts from the overall presence of the fan in the room.

Good battery-powered fan4
This fan is excellent for a battery-powered fan. Very powerful compared to other battery models; it will put out enough air to keep you confortable several feet of the fan. It is obviously not as powerful as an AC-powered room fan, but great for what it is. I haven't tested battery lifespan yet (I bought it after Katrina for future hurricane-related power outages), so no opinion there yet.

I'm surprised to see negative reviews. We've been using these for 3+ years now and have no complaints at all.

We use them on our boat in the caribbean. the temps are 80+ w/ humidity at 80+ also. it can get hot and stuffy in the cabin. but not with this fan. it puts out a lot of air for a little fan. and the heavy bottom keeps it from flying around the cabin in rough water or falling over when kicked at night.

We run them every night, all night. batteries last about 2 weeks at that rate (about 125 hours.)but i always carry extras just in case.

Plan on using one (1) per person.

We finally replaced ours after the wiring became disconnected. I couldn't find a way in to that compartment to fix it. but at $14 each, so what.

Predictable quality - well built, nice looking5
I have four Hunter fans in my home - all are just terrific! They look very nice and are clearly well built. They are silent, even when on higher speeds. Our bedroom fan is on almost all the time - summer and winter - and has yet to give us any problem. The Hunter Auberville that I purchased here was a gift for a family member. They hung the fan themselves and found it to be very easy to do, although it did require going into the attic to add an additional brace due to the weight. They love it!

I purchased a similar fan last year but not a Hunter. It lasted just a few months and was pretty pathetic in comparison. Anyway, I decided to replace it and chose the Hunter Auberville in its place. As I already have 4 other Hunters I felt very confident.

Took over an hour to install but it is fantastically quiet and efficient. On first use the air was coming out the sides of the blades which meant it was switched to clockwise. As soon as I switched it to counter-clockwise, the fan worked perfectly. It is so quiet I just cannot hear it hardly.

Very pleased with this model and I am about to order another one.

We've been using our Honeywell fan for a couple of months now. Here's what we think.

The lower fan is a very nice addition. We've always found bugs to be a bigger problem on your legs and feet. The fan keeps your upper body AND legs cool and pretty much bug free.

it's not an air conditioner4
its quiet for what it is. theres a auidible but low-pitched hum coming from the motor, its not bad considering I've heard noisier fans then this. I kept 2 of these fans running at high speed, in my bedroom, at opposite ends during the heat wave. when the power went out, I realised these fans really do work. the room was noticably cooler. I plan to get another one of these & a window fan for my kitchen. it's worth the price.
the only reason I didn't give these fans 5 stars is because the height adjuster on one broke a little too easily... but I think its perfect at its lowest level anyway, with no adjustment its level to the bed.

Better than Mediocre fan, Single Room Only!4
This is a review for the 8700 model. Actual rating is a 3.5.

This fan is made fully of plastic. The plastic is slightly durable. It does not feel like cheap plastic though, but it doesn't feel like high quality plastic either.

The total height of the fan is 22", and with the handle it is 23" high. There are two fans, both the same size, and each fan is 9" in diameter.

The top fan is stuck to the handle, so in order to angle that fan up or down, you just need to move the handle forward or backward. The bottom fan is on a separate hinge, so it can be rotated up or down independently. You can have one fan facing downward, and the other angled up at the ceiling, or you can have both fans angled up at the ceiling to help with air circulation.

The fans do a good job of circulating the air in a single closed room, like a bedroom, but not in an open room like a living room where it would have two openings (mine has an opening into the dining room and into the front door area/foyer). This fan is mainly for bedrooms about 16' x 16' or smaller. It creates a pleasant constant breeze in a small room.

There are two fan speeds, I or II, and the off setting (O).
Regarding the noise, on setting I, the fans are quiet. I can fall asleep with the fans on setting I. On setting II, the noise is not quiet, but it is not loudy either, but it is noticeable, so you wouldn't want to have it on when you are trying to sleep. And you wouldn't mind it all if you had the TV on or had comapny over, or had something else to do that would muffle out the sound or occupy your mind.

I enjoy my fan. Glad I purchased it for my room, but I think I'll find a more powerful model for the whole house.

Honeywell Name, But Manufacured by Kaz Inc. with Decreased Honeywell Quality3
I have been using this item for about two months now and I have noticed a decrease in quality of this item in comparison to another Honeywell Fan I have had for 6 years. This item is not as powerful as the Honeywell HT800 Super Turbo High Performance Fan, Black which I have owned and used exclusively for 6 New England Summers. The current of air that is projected from this item on high equals about the current that comes from my old Honeywell Fan on Low. I am only comparing a single fan on this item to the single fan on my old Honeywell Fan. The size of the electric motors on this item is noticably smaller than the one on my old Honeywell Fan as well.

The flexibility of this dual fan item allows for multi-directional ventilation which is nice to have when coming home to an apartment that has been closed up while I'm at work on a summer day. With one fan pointed straight up toward the ceiling and the other blowing directly on me, I can relatively quickly start to reduce the temperature of my livingroom/kitchen area. The bottom fan on this item is quieter than the top fan, but they are both pretty quiet overall.

The durability of this item seems to be very good with regard to the housing and titling mechanism. I would recommend this item if you are want a fan that has flexible features, but not if you need a very powerful fan for larger rooms.

This is a great little (skinny) fan!5
Have had this fan for almost a year now. It's quiet and very efficient. In fact, looks like my son has borrowed mine. I'll go buy another one soon!

It does what it does.5
I purchased the fan about 2 years ago. It is still going strong. It takes up minimal space and rotates. It consumes 24/27/31 Watts of electricity. The actual CFM turns out to be terribly bad. It turns out 300-400CFM at Max. Regular 16" desk fan will put out 1700cfm, 4-5 times more air that's why they don't post CFM information on the tower fans. None the less it is handy to have one of this because of space saving.

Works for mommy and baby!4
I was surprised to see such negative reviews. I guess it's because I haven't owned another fan with remote before because I am happy with it. I used it during the middle of the night while pregnant and it was great being able to turn on from the remote on my nightstand. My husband hardly noticed it was on (it took a month or so)! And now it gets used almost daily when the baby (or both of us) naps in the afternoon. I think it's also worked out great as added white noise.

I love this fan! It has been hotter than two bowls of soup in the Northwest the past week and this fan has done an amazing job of moving my AC around the house! I turned my thermostat to 75 degrees (it's normally at 70) to try and give the AC unit a break in this 100 degree weather and I can barely tell the difference in temperature because I have this fan sitting directly in front of my floor AC vent! What a great way to circulate the AC in my house and save some money on my electric bill when the temperatures are sweltering!! I find this fan to be average when it comes to noise, but it does move a lot of air on High. The oscillation feature is great at helping move the cool air to a greater area too. I have other Honeywell Fans (HT-908, HT-800 & HW-628) in my house moving the air too and they are all of the highest quality. Exactly what I would expect from Honeywell.

Also interesting to note that I noticed that another reviewer said that the fan gave off a overheating electrical smell. This fan has NO heating element in the motor, so it is literally impossible for it to "overheat". Perhaps it was a problem with their electrical outlet?

Puts out an odor3
I like the style of the fan but it makes a clicking sound when oscillating and when I've had it on for a while, there is a chemically type burning odor which I don't like at all.

Works well4
Tne apartments in my area have no AC, so every summer we have to break out the fans. This fan was pretty easy to assemble, and it works quite nicely! It's definitely quieter and more effective than a box fan. The remote control is a nice touch, too.

There are "Natural Breeze" and "Sleep Breeze" modes that allow the fan to vary its speed, but I've found them to be pretty useless.

All in all, good buy. I'm able to keep my cool!

This year we had our family golf tournament on a 100 degree day. Set up three of these fan misting kits and they were a big success. Could have sold a dozen, if I had extra. Really endorse this product.

Safe and Effective4
The outdoor fan is a great way to get rid of flying insects such as mosquitoes ans gnats by creating air currents. Better and safer than bug sprays, citronella candles (I don't think they work), and any other products. It also makes for a nice breeze on a humid evening. I think its great and would recommend this product.

Great Fan!5
I bought this misting fan for my five chickens and Big John, my big white rooster. I live in Florida and the humidity is really high. By mid-day they are holding their wings out away from their bodies because of the heat, even in the shade. I already had a misting hose but this outside fan and additional misters has done the trick. The blowing cooling mist really feels great to people after mowing the lawn. Give it a try.

THE best fan I've ever owned5
I now own three of these fans. Yes, they are a bit more pricey than you basic $19.99 fan found in discount stores, but worth every penny. When you think of all the useless fans you toss, this one pays for itself- not to mention the energy cost of the fan vs A/C. Another reviewer pointed out on this same fan on another review- many good features of this fan(why it's not posted under this same fan I don't know). Anyway, this is one SUPER fan - you will not believe how much air it moves!!! On the low setting, it can be felt 10ft. away with little or no disturbance to papers, curtains etc. You can definitely feel the difference on the setting when you switch speeds. On medium setting, it will blow papers off your desk or kitchen table -key here- the height of the table. On high, this fan will blow you away :)!! I use the high setting when I'm out to help keep the rooms cool for our dog while we are at work _ who can afford to run the A/C that many hours while you're not at home. On extreme heat days. I may turn the A/C on low for her-but just in one room, the fan then extends the cool air into the next room.

Another overlooked use for the fan is while painting a room. This fan really speeds up the drying process _ just make sure you have no powdery debris that you may have gotten as a result from sanding, plastering etc. This fan would also be great to circulate air in a damp basement.

Legs on the fan as other reviewer pointed out, give you more placement options than a rounded dome base. I did accidentally break one of these fans, when I unknowingly pulled it, with the vacuum cord. The cord was around the bottom of the pole, the fan tipped over, causing me to trip to try to save it from falling. PS, I fell on it, no damage to me, but one of the legs broke, because I positioned it at room entrance way with the leg flush against a wall and securely wedged on other side of same leg, by a cocktail table - to avoid accidental tipping , of course. Since I fell directly on the fan portion, full force, I managed to break a blade as well. The next morning I went out and purchased another. With the exception of the new replacement fan, I've had these for three years now and I would not consider buying another brand or cheaper fan.
I love this fan!!!

iT IS JUST FANTASTIC GET THIS AS SOON AS YOU CAN!4
Three years ago, I bought one in the states for my room in my country ( it is cheaper that get a crappy one in my country).
I have serious problems sleeping ( serious meaning that even I have been under studies of my sleeping patterns) I used earplugs all shut down of course I need some air.
Well with this it was fantastic to sleep the air circulates and it gets really cold ( I used to live in a country with 85 F every day)
Then I bought to more for the rest of my family.
Now That I live in California,my first apartment was hideous ( the air did not circulate, and my city view was a freeway!!!-oh yes they charge me more for that).I had to buy one again, and I had to add 2 little blizzards.They are my treasure.
Now That I moved again, I am trying a tower one by Honeywell! It is a joke: the temperature does not get less than 75 F ( high speed) and the 25 feet that get the power I don't know where.
while my little blizzard gets the hole living room...
Honeywell bye bye. I think I will get another blizzard for my room instead of trying fancy - does not work stuff.

Really if you need to buy one, maybe is not that fancy but is portable slim and is way better.
Why not 5 starts becaus is kind of a pain to open it to clean the dust inside. But I rather have patience!

Very good fan4
I bought a slightly older model (HAPF622R) about 4 or 5 years ago which looks the same and has the same features as this one. I've been very happy with it. I works well on the floor or propped up in my bedroom window. It's very quiet and doesn't disturb my sleep. Still, I wish the 3 speeds were each a bit lower than they are. The highest setting is a little too noisy for sleeping. The remote control, timer and oscillating grill are very nice features. I don't use the variable "breeze mode" much because the noise level changes with changes in speed and I'd rather have it constant. All the features are operable from the remote control. It's nice not to have to get out of bed to adjust the fan during the night. Overall this is the best fan I've ever had and would definitely buy another one. Even after years of use it still runs quietly and well.

The little heater I was looking for4
This is the inexpensive heater I've been looking for. (1) It's fairly compact (9-1/2 w x 7 d x 10 h) and because it's curved instead of boxy it seems smaller. (2) An unexpected bonus, finally a cord that's realistically long - 6-1/2 feet - so I won't need an extension cord. (3) The thermostat works reasonably well, in terms of sort of maintaining the temperature - something I wondered about in a cheap heater. Though the right setting and how well it works will probably depend on where it is (floor, countertop). And the thermostat probably can't be expected to work well in an especially drafty location.

As others have noted - It's quiet (though not silent). There are two heat settings, though as noted just one fan setting. The numbers on the dials are hard to read except up close.

Best $15 I have Spent In A While!4
We moved into a new office and the building is VERY chilly...I couldn't take it anymore so I got this little heater and overall I couldn't be happier. I am now warm and toasty all day long! The heater is a small size, so it can fit under your desk without problem even if you sit in a cube at work. It's also lightweight and has a lot of safety features so you don't have to worry about burning anything down. The thermostat feature is nice because it will keep your space maintained at a constant temperature.

One "minus" is that it doesn't really have an "OFF" switch - the red light always stays on when it's plugged in. I agree with other reviews that the controls are also very hard to read, so you have to be up close & personal with it to get it to the setting you want. Also, the thermostat is not something you can really figure out "out of the box" - you definitely have to read the directions to understand how to use it. But those "flaws" are so minor that you shouldn't let it influence your purchasing decision. It is TOTALLY worth every penny!

Excellent Little Heater4
I bought this heater three years ago based on the good reviews and cheap price. I expected it to get me through that winter only. I have used this thing just about daily for the past three years, heat in fall/winter and fan in summer. It still works quite well and seems ready for the upcoming winter. The only problem I am beginning to notice now is that the on/off/heat control wheel is starting to become loose. Otherwise it does a great job for the intended task and has already lasted longer than anticipated. The thermostat on it is finicky and takes a little playing around with it to do basically what you want but the heat does cycle on/off more or less appropriately. I'd give 5 stars if the thermostat was perfect but it is what it is and that is good enough. I just bought two more, my old one will go to the garage for duty there until it eventually fails. A good, solid product for a very good price.

Great Product ~!5
We installed this fan in our bathroom remodel in 1996. Awesome choice. The room is only 10'x8' and it *totally* protected the finish on our custom cabinets and the painted walls. After 12 years, not One area of steam damage or mold. The motor finally gave out and I can't wait for the new one to arrive tomorrow so I can have another 12 years of a steam-free bathroom :O)

Very good product4
I put this fan in a small bathroom, about 10x10. It installed easily and certainly removes the humidity well. My bathroom mirror never has moisture on it even after the hottest shower. The only draw back is the noise. It is really loud. So, I just shut it off directly after showering.

This item is perfect for my purpose! I have a custom-built oak range hood, and I wanted to be able to keep the cabinets above. I needed a smaller fan than most range hoods use, and I finally found the perfect size with this one. It has ample exhaust (through the outside wall), and the light is more than sufficient.

Excellent heating unit5
This is an excellent heating unit. Our old Nautilus lasted for over 15 years so we decided to replace it with another. This unit is much quieter than the old one and more sleek looking. I'm also pleased to see the all metal construction, this fan is built to last. (plastic blades will flex and your cfm will drop.) Yea, it's noisy at full speed but I've got some light weather stripping that'll be perfect to significantly reduce the vibrations. We'll mostly run it at low speed anyway which still moves 2510 CFM. In contrast, we recently purchased TWO $8.00 twin plastic window fans from a local big box on closeout, [ regular price ~$20.00+, very much like, the Holmes HAWF2030 ] and those things are not worth spit!! The Air King will just about suck the cat through the door from across the room! I'm confident that my Air King was well worth the money.

powerful and pretty4
I purchased this to help ventilate my old house and it is now set it up in a window in my third-floor attic. First, the bad stuff.

The installation instructions are abysmal. I needed to do an exterior frame mount (which entails mounting it OUTSIDE the interior window frame, rather than mounting it within the window frame) and the instructions leave out a VERY important detail. To mount it this way, you must remove the expandable side pieces entirely and then turn them around and re-install. That would have been useful information to have.

Also, the fan does not mount easily on a flat window sill. I had to install a piece of molding on the window sill to keep the fan's bottom from scooching right out the window (and down three stories). That bit of info is also not mentioned in the instructions.

Third, I did initially try an inside-frame mount and the design of the fan is such that this is nearly impossible to do, unless you have the widest window frame that this fan will accomodate.

Now the good stuff. It is an easy-to-use fan and the six-option switch has three speeds and two directions. The select-speed knob is well-located and easy to read and use. The fan is mostly metal and looks like it is well built (other than the design problems listed above). It's powerful enough, but it's not a super-strong fan. With the opposing attic window shut, this fan will pull a slight breeze from the second floor bedroom windows, but it's not like the belt-driven whole-house fans of yore. Those things would suck unsuspecting kittens and pet iguanas right off the floor.

However, it does help ventilate the house and it doesn't make too much racket. This fan is mounted directly over my bedroom window (10' up in the attic) and on high, even at night, I do not hear the fan. For the money, it's probably a pretty good deal. Above all, it'll help keep my attic from turning into an oven during the dog days of summer.

worth the money5
Great fan, pretty simple installation, instructions and big sticker on fan tell you to reverse side panels that one person had a problem with...go figure. Moves a LOT of air, keeps my three story house nice and cool. A little loud on high, but I guess that is to be expected when the fan is moving over 3000 CFM @ 1600 RPMs. I recommend!

Only US made 18" high velocity floor fan left5
For those looking in vain for a steel blade high quality 18" high velocity floor fan, this is it. I have had the old Pattons and Lakewoods and they were great, but now they are both made in China from cheap materials and they are crap. I just got the Air King and it is built like a tank. It moves more air and makes less noise than any similar fan I have had before.

You can never be too thin or too rich...4
I bought it. Very good fan, sturdy, good finish and coating, rather slim (for an air circulator) and well designed, but,(and unfortunately there is a but...) very noisy, it roars like a P38 fighter from WWII, it also displaces a huge amount of air like the P38, but way too noisy. I don't regret the fact that I bought it, but it is going to end in my workshop and let's see who makes more noise, this fan or my unisaw. Hey, who knows? maybe the fan wins!!! It just a joke. Again, good but too noisy.

Now this is a FAN!5
I had previously owned a Patton floor fan of this size 10 years or so ago, but it disappeared when loaned to a neighbor.It was a fantastic appliance. Having noticed that Patton had been sold to Holmes group, I read the ratings of the new model Patton fans and was not surprised that they no longer had 5 star ratings.
The Air King fan lived up to its 5 star rating in my opinion; quiet , powerful and solid as a rock. It will really moves some air. I have already ordered the 14" companion model for upstairs.

awesome fan5
My husband and I have tried several different fans to make our sons room less hot and stuffy. Most of them, you can't even feel a breeze across the room when the fan is on it's highest setting.The Air King, however, on it's lowest setting, will blow you away. You can feel the air out in the hallway. It keeps our son's room cool and the air circulating. We are very pleased with the fan and have considered getting fans for other rooms.

The Air KIng 14" High Velosity Fan5
The reason I made this purchase is I needed a floorfan I could throw in the window to ventilate the house on milder days. I also wanted a fan made here in America. The fan performs its job effectively and has a totally enclosed ball bearing motor. Because of this motor you can operate this fan in dirty environments without concern, and with ball bearings this fan will probably last 20 years or more with seasonal usage.
I would highly recommend this fan to anybody.

Expensive quality4
The Air King was bought to replace a similar model Patton that only lasted about four years. The frame and guard are of equal quality, but the motor is definitely better on the Air King, and that is what has gone bad on both Pattons I have owned. Only time will tell if the increased cost will be worth it.

cute little guy4
I saw these little fans in Hawaii under a different brand name. I thought they looked well-made and handy. I have come to avoid a lot of plastic stuff, which to me, appears cheap and breakable. Whether they are better than similar sized plastic fans, I may never know, but I like the retro, utilitarian look and size.

I had never seen them before on the mainland so I Googled until I found them here at Amazon. I found various models of what I think is essentially the same fan, even though there are different model numbers. If there are real differences, the product descriptions do not make that clear enough. The one I bought was the cheapest at $10. I liked it enough when I received it that I ordered more at that price. They have been backordered for a while. I'm not sure if I can get another for $10 (a bargain, I think), but if one suits your fancy, it might be worth a bit more. My only criticism is that the stand is a little lightweight, so it can be a bit tippy when angled down a lot, but fine when set up normally. The stand does allow it to be easily hung from hooks or adapted to unusual applications.

Good fan fpr what we use it for4
Used to cool my receiver in an enclosed TV stand. Bought one at Walmart while I was waiting for this one to show up. Got the Walmart version for 7 dollars. This one is in the garage as a standby. It's quiet, and keeps the receiver cool. That's all I cared about.

Quiet, Reliable, Easy To Clean5
The quietness of my 10-year-old fan prompted my friend to ask me order her one. All the parts disassemble easily for total cleaning. A real workhorse; I leave it running 24/7 in summer.

Just what I was hoping for5
I had bought a Hunter table fan, only to be completely disappointed to find that not only was it made in China, but it was difficult to disassemble for cleaning, and the blades won't start to spin unless switched to HIGH (and even then it sometimes needs a push or several to start turning). So, I set out on a quest to find a fan that is made in the US, easy to disassemble, and works properly. I stumbled across reviews on the 'net which indicated that not only are Lasko fans still made in the US, but this particular fan is easy to disassemble. So I ordered two from Amazon. They arrived in a matter of 3 business days. I am SO pleased with the fan! I put the first one together in about 1 minute, didn't even need the instructions (the other I'll just keep in the box until needed). The head doesn't tilt downward very much, I'd say only 5 or 10 degrees, but it tilts upward quite a bit farther than other fans I've owned, I'd guess somewhere between 30 to 40 degrees from level. It's very quiet other than the inevitable white noise of the fan blades pushing the air. I run my fan in the bedroom at night for the white noise and the air circulation, so it's probably on a *minimum* of 12 hours a day. I don't have any idea how long this fan will hold up to that kind of use. But I am so pleased to have something made in the US and fits all of the other criteria that I set out to find!!! Thanks, Amazon, for the quick delivery, and Lasko, for the great product!!!

Now if it will only last for 25 years like the Sanyo desk fan I used to own... if it does, I'll probably be dead and the second fan will be brand new in a box on the shelves downstairs, so my family will inherit a brand new "old" fan LOL.

ok product3
This is an inexpensive fan that clips on instead of standing on a flat surface. It works and it looks ok and fits on my shower curtain rod where we attach it and run it after showers to keep the mold and mildew down. The only problem I have encounter is the switch became detached an fell inside the fan housing. We were able to retrieve it and re-attach it and it seems to be fine now. Minor flaw for someone that doesn't mind making repaires to equipement but might be major to someone that doesn't have this skill.

Exactly what I needed5
I was looking for a small fan to clip on to my computer desk during the day and onto my bed at night, just to keep me a little cooler when the weather gets to 80 or 90 degrees. It works perfectly for this purpose, and I'm very happy with it. I'm thinking of buying another to take with me to work on hot days.

Easy install and quiet!5
I have installed several ceiling fans in the past, but the people at Westinghouse really made the install easy with their fan. Unlike most fans which require you to hold the fan motor up while wiring it in, Westinghouse put a separate plug on their motor. You wire up the plug to the home outlet, then lift the motor up. Could not be easier. It took 30 minutes total to install.

The fan is very quiet during operation. The fan output is also very impressive.

I am very happy with the fan and would highly recommend it.

A few things you might like to know4
1. This is a 3-speed-plus "off" fan with a reverse-direction switch and an attached light assembly. Both can be controlled by pull cords if desired.

2. The instructions are adequate, but assume knowledge of safe wiring and connection practices. This is not an absolute beginner's project, though if you have any successful experience in house wiring, you can probably do this.

3. For planning purposes, the complete job (removing old fixture and installing fan and light unit) took me a little over 2 1/2 hours. I am a careful and methodical amateur. You are working at the top of a ladder in awkward positions, so there is a high likelihood of dropping screws. If you are working over a deep pile carpet, put down a drop cloth or you will wish you had!

4. Westinghouse needs better quality control. There was a missing wire nut in the fan interface wiring which was instantly obvious, and there weren't anywhere near enough metal washers for the fan blade assembly. I suspect these problems were unique to this unit, but it would be well to examine each piece as you assemble it. I suppose this is the price you pay for an inexpensive unit.

5. If you have a low ceiling, you will probably feel more cooling breeze if you turn the fan-direction switch to the winter setting, as the summer setting makes the fan blow straight down.

If the quality control was better, I would rate this product a 5. It works well, is quiet except for a steady hum when running that might be noticeable in a quiet room when trying to sleep. But that gentle breeze is so nice on a warm night!
I may buy another for another room.

This is the fourth Hunter Low Profile ceiling fan we've purchased for our home. This 42-inch four-blade model is perfect for smaller bedrooms with eight-foot ceilings. The housing fits nicely on the ceiling where the light fixture was, it doesn't hang down too low, and it's very quiet for sleeping. Hunter suppresses the motor sound by using rubber bumpers between the mounting bracket and ceiling, soft rubber grommets for each blade, and of course a quiet motor. We're very satisfied with this product, and our first two are still quiet after three years.

What a handy n neat little verstile fan!4
I LIKE THIS ITEM! What makes it so nifty is it works on a car charger,(included) regular a/c (included) OR D batteries! 3 different power sources in one make it very portable and usable in different situations. The fans themselves are small yet its quite powerful and you can angle the bottom fan up or down and the top one left to right..the mist comes out in the middle and is VERY cooling and refreshing, (esp if u used chilled water) Now it does say that the misting last for some ridicules amount of time like 10 hours. That's wrong, you have to fill up the bottle about every hour to 2 hours and SOMETIMES esp on the intermittent misting feature it will stop misting and u have the give the bottle a little twist or tap. Still though living in HOT n HUMID FL I find it's an item I cannot live without and on dryer days it doubles as a humidifier, have used in the house and as long as your not setting it next to electronics it doesn't get anything soaking or dripping wet. Also a great item to cool off your car on a hot day and even ad to the a/c. And the the D battery feature is portable enough to take outside for gardening, to cool pets and great for power outages-storms etc. My only little complainants is I the black plastic fans seem a little cheap-I wouldn't adjust them a lot and I believe the ad or box say they oscillate and they don't, you have to manually adjust them into position and like I said the water/misting isn't as advertised for how long it lasts and does clog every now and again and just an FYI it's pretty noisy esp, when misting (but that doesn't bother me) and I would have to say item is easily 20 bucks over priced, if it were not for that I would have given it 5 stars. O2-Cool 10" Flat Panel Fan4
I really like this fan; it's really strong for the 10". The only bad thing is that after using it for more than 1 hour the fan starts to get warm, and sometimes even hot.

I originally purchased this fan to be used outside at my daughter's softball games. It was a life saver in the SC heat. I am so glad I purchased it. Other parents were very envious (i shared occassionally). My daughter used it in between games to cool down and she enjoyed it. Recently my hubby and I have used it in our bedroom (with the adaptor)because our ceiling fan is not working. It is perfect because we can easily slide it into a hiding spot in the mornings when we clean our room. It would be very effiecient in a power outage. I would recommend this fan.

I love the fan but I'm not happy with Amazon. I thought I was getting a good deal on this gorgeous and unique fan until I saw the same fan at a local Menards (Hardware and home-improvement store) in Indianapolis for $74 less. Since I'm supposed to be reviewing the product and not my purchase experience from Amazon... I'll continue. I bought the fan to hang outside under a pergola. So, it was important that the fan is rated for wet locations and this fan is just that. In addition, it is more powerful that I thought and quiet. The sails are different and nice looking. Overall, I'll give the fan 10 out of 10!

unique and quiet5
I have had the Hunter Sanibel ceiling fan for a couple months. It is uniquely beautiful. I have had to make many purchase decisions during our home remodel, and the decision to purchase this beautiful fan is one of the best decisions I have made. It hangs at the top of a high stairwell and it was not an easy place to install a fan. It is very quiet, has 3 speeds and the cloth sail cloth blades fit in with my coastal beach house. I did go to home depot and purchase a remote control to operate the fan and light, at a cost of almost $50.00. I also purchased a 12inch extending rod so that it hung lower from the vaulted ceiling I have. It is fairly easy to assemble. Hire a pro to install it.

I have had 2 of these fans in my son's room for more than a year. He has a stuffy room with no cross ventilation and these fans help quite a bit. I am sure I could make do with just one of them, but having to two on opposite sides of his room makes sleeping more comfortable.

The house has air conditioning but some of the rooms arent as cool as others or are just stuffy. A fan really helps cool off the room and move the AC around the house more efficiently. On days that are not quite warm enough to turn on the AC these fans really make sleeping bearable.

I have them set at opposite sides of the room but I keep meaning to wall mount them. An excellent feature! There is some fan noise but truthfully, it drowns out noise coming from outside his room and I think the *white-noise* quality of it helps him sleep. The loudness of the noise is based on the fan setting.

For the price...this is a great fan. And the size is perffect for small rooms. Add that you can wall mount it and you have an excellent product.

This little fan runs great and really moves a lot of air with very little noise. I have had it in my office for a couple of years and often enough it has been left on over a weekend or holiday without any apparent harm. For the price, I don't think you can do any better.

I can attest to what many of the other reviewers are saying: at its lowest setting, this fan is very loud! I suppose you can think of it as white noise, but it's almost loud enough to go beyond that. If you turn the fan up to medium or high, it gets even louder, but really, I don't see any reason to go above the already-powerful low setting in an office or home office setting.

One or two other reviewers have stated that the fan is quiet. Perhaps there is a quality control issue and it depends on the individual fan you end up with.

On the plus side, the fan really does get the air moving. It has a three-year warranty, which is better than a lot of the cheaper or "no-name" fans. I'm keeping this fan. I wonder if it will last 18 years, like the one it's replacing. Remember to check back in 2025 and I will let you know!

I bought this fan at Walmart. In fact, I bought two window fans because I didn't think this fan would be worthy. I got home that night around 11:45pm. It was 81 degrees in the house, but outside it was nice and cool. I set it up and it really pulled the cold air in. The temp dropped to 73 with the fan on. Nice.

My windows are new casement type windows and this one fits perfectly. It has a extension that will make it longer and at the other end, there is a pull out extension that will make it even longer.

I'm returing the other one which is a HAWF2026 - it just doesn't have the extra extension and the adjustable one (doesn't have any of them).

I really wished they put a more powerful motor in these, but for the price it's not bad. If there is a more powerful one I'll buy it. I'll give it a 4 star because it's not powerful enough, but it works great!

BTW, I do have AC in the house, but why use AC when the outside air is chilly already!

MY HOME EXHAUST FAN5
I bought this thinking that it can be used as an exhaust fan for my kitchen. I don't like the smell of food inside the house so I gave this a try. It has two fan settings which in my opinion is a good option. Operational sound is quite loud but it works pretty well by circulating the air in the kitchen and removing that awful smelling fumes. Price is reasonable.

we bought 2 of these fans for our childrens bedrooms. They work fine with little noise. They went up easily (we had our home prewired and braced for ceiling fans).

The fans are "off" or "on". there doesn't appear to be the normal 3 speed settings you find on most ceiling fans.

Shocked at how quiet it is!4
The only reason I did not give this item 5 stars is the cord is a bit too short for my desk arrangement and I didn't like the clip style although it works fine and appears quite sturdy. The real surprise was how wonderfully quiet it is even at high speed. It supplies just the right amount of airflow to combat stuffiness and not disrupt loose papers on your desk. In hindsight I wish I'd bought one of these when I started getting hot flashes. Please note you can turn off the oscillating feature by pulling up the top button. At this price point for this quality, I'm very pleased.

Fan get the job done4
The fan is small, yet not very compact. It doesn't move a whole lot of air, but keeps me comfortable enough as a desk fan. Originally I wanted to use it in a laundry room that gets hotter than the rest of the house, but it just didn't move enough air. Overall the fan is pretty good. I did have some trouble with the arms not supporting the weight of the fan head at certain angles, but I wasn't picky about the fan positioning, so not a big deal. The power cord is the phone-type that's curled up like a spring, but fully extended it is a bit short, on the other hand it does stay out of the way, so that point has both possitives and negatives. The clip is big, strong, and rubber padded; probably the fan's best quality.

Overall, a decent quality fan that does what its supposed to, but don't expect it to move air in even a small room. It needs to be fairly close to you if you want to feel it pulling any heat off you, which is the whole point of a fan.

Purchased the fan from Amazon. Everything is fine. The fan is quiet. The only surprise is that Hunter changed the bulb from medium base incandescent to candelabra base. The CFL candelabra is fairly expensive. Otherwise its OK.

I am very pleased with this fan, overall.
Not a super easy install for a novice like me, my husband completed the installation well within 2 hours, although the instruction manual was somewhat vague in certain areas, which earned this produce a slightly less than perfect rating.
We chose to flush mount the fan and 3-light attachment (bulbs not included) in a smaller bedroom with an 8' ceiling. Two alternative mounting options are included.
Remote controlled operation (controller included, batteries are not) is quiet at all speeds and transition is smooth, although there is a slight wobble at the highest setting only. Included is a balancing kit to address wobble.

Good, but not great - 3
Operates nicely and pretty quietly, but air delivery is from 6" to 3 ft. above floor level. A tilt mechanism on the front of these fans would help a lot. If you're going to purchase a tower fan, get one that is at least 40" tall - they're more expensive, but worth it.

Excellent Quality5
This circulates the air around the room just fine. What I look for in a product is build quality. I have had mine for over a year and I never turn it off. It still runs without issues. I only buy Holmes fans because they are long lasting and are priced just right. It is whisper quiet as well.

Decent for the Price3
I'm sort of surprised by a former reviewer's title of "Excellent Quality," as I think the quality is average (at best). I bought 2 of these as well as a Lasko 40-Inch Elite Wind Tower with Remote Control, and the Lasko's quality is FAR superior (granted, the Lasko is double the price). These Holmes fans ARE decent for the price though.

Pros:
Decent air volume/movement
Price
Not too noisy (again, keeping price in mind)

Cons:
Controls feel "cheap," and you have to really push the buttons in firmly to change a setting.
While the base seems reasonably stable, the fans are a bit wobbly at the oscillation joint.

Not trashing these by any stretch of the imagination, but average quality is a more realistic description.

June 2009 UPDATE - This fan was barely used (6 months), and when it was, it wasn't "handled" or moved. Then, it was in climate controlled storage for another 6 months. When I picked it up, the base simply fell apart - where the screw mount to the tower just snapped off. Completely unusable. Spend the extra $ on the Lasko.

Here in MI things get cold quick and living in a cold finished basement makes things tough. My computer room is a tiny 6x10 and doesn't have vents for heat. The hallway near the doorway lacks them as well so it gets very cold. When I saw this heater for [...] i figured to give it a try for that room.

The heat is just about instant. No waiting for it to warm up. The thermostat works nice to keep the room at a very comfortable level. Nice to have so you don't have to keep adjusting and turning on and off. Sound is very quiet. Much more quiet than my normal desk fan, but it sits on the floor under the desk. I just realized its sitting right on the carpet and I wouldn't worry about it falling over or anything. It is very sturdy and kicking it somewhat gently doesn't knock it over. The unit is very cool to the touch even while running. I actually picked it up while running and was examining the bottom.

I was kinda disappointed about one thing. From the picture on the box I assumed it would oscillate which would be a cool feature, but since its only [...] its not a big deal at all. It does have a swivel base that turns about 45 degrees either way, but with it being so light I don't see a point.

This unit is 1500 watts ... um or amps ... whichever the case, my computer is a gamer computer and it draws ... a lot. So the point is that when I am gaming, I have noticed that every time the heater kicks on the lights dim a little bit just for a split second since I have them both running off the same circuit. I don't know if I would put them in the same outlet ... but then again nothing goes into the same outlet as the PC anyways.

Pros: light, quiet, instant heat, doubles as a fan, PRICE!

Cons: not really any unless you need one that oscillates or you are going to land an airplane with your Christmas lights this year.

A great buy5
I used this both for cooling (in fan-only mode) and heating. The heat works great, and it warms up almost instantly. The cooling side is good, but it doesn't push as much air as some regular fans, so I need it a 2-3 feet away to feel enough breeze to cool me.

The plastic grill does rapidly change color to show it's hot, but I found that unneeded because the grill itself never gets hot. At times, I've had it accidently fall over or get covered, and it's never overheated or made something crispy. :-)

The thermostat also works well, and is easy and user-friendly to adjust. The fan is very quiet; sometimes I don't notice it's on. It's very lightweight and is easily swiveled to fine-tune the direction.

Mine finally died after frequent use for 8-10 months, but I feel I got my money's worth, and I'm buying another to replace it.

Very flexible for placement, but loud and doesn't move much air4
I have an old (model 280) Vornado air circulator which I love-- big air flow and minimal noise, so I automatically gravitated towards Vornado when I needed a new compact fan that could move a lot of air.

This new fan is loud for a Vornado. Despite some cushioning material in/around the clip, it has a heavy/audible vibration even at its lower (of 2) settings, and the desk it's attached to vibrates. I intended this fan to cool a hot spot created by computers in my office, but its noise (even on low) is a bit louder than the computer fans and spinning hard drives.

Disappointingly, this fan moves less air than other compact Vornado fans, but its saving grace is the big clip and multi-directional adjustable head. It can be aimed at pretty much any angle (in roughly 20 or 30-degree steps) and the clip is strong enough to hold the fan in place upside down without slipping off its mount (ie, with the closed end of the clip towards the ground, it doesn't work lose with gravity, at least not in a short test).

Vornado fans are now made in China instead of the US. This may have affected quality/quietness versus older fans...

I give it 4 stars, instead of the 3 the fan by itself rates, for its ingenious swivel-head clip design.

I think I'll just have to get a big Vornado for the computer room and find floor space for it, after unsuccessfully trying and returning several compact Vornados because they were just too noisy.

I just bought the new 540B clip fan & I am an immediate "fan" of this model.
Although it is incredibly powerful, it is far smaller than I thought (which makes it even cooler),
so it easily installs rather inobtrusively.
Don't let the clip or term "personal fan" fool you, although compact, this baby packs a punch!

I have been searching for a fan to mount in a doorway between rooms to equalize the climate
in (way) hotter/cooler spots of the house & this is PERFECT!
Most of the doorway fans I found were flimsy, ugly & ineffective.
I was thinking how I wish vornado had a doorway fan &
visited the website to find vornado had indeed just introduced this clip fan !!!!

So small, yet so effective & versatile, and it even looks great !
I installed 2 inobtrusive screws in the doorframe & popped it up there
I felt an immediate, vast difference in both the temperature & airflow.
The unit does indeed blow at least 65 feet and incredibly quiet.

Even better, because the mounting plate uses keyhole openings,
I can easily pop the unit off & install or clip somewhere else when needed without removing the screws.
Additionally, the swivel bracket is well designed allowing a multitude
of positions.

Vornado products are amazing in quality as well.
I have a vornado 700 series (full size) circulator fan, which
I've owned and used almost daily for at least 5 years & it operates as
efficiently and quietly as if I received it yesterday.
Considering the quality, they are not all that expensive either.
Vornado full size units boast a lifetime warranty & the clip fan a 5 year warranty.
Intuitive design & excellent quality, allows for great warranties.

As advertised, vornado fans don't merely blow a bit of air around,
they actually create a force that circulates all the air in the room.
This small unit puts my large holmes pedestal fan to shame.
I immediately packed the holmes up & placed it in my guest room.

I love this fan & you will too!

Great Fan 5
This is another example of the superior products manufactured by Vornado. The fan is a standard 2 speed vortex action which really circulates the air better than any other fan I have ever used. I have several Vornado fans for different rooms and uses. But the spring action clip is what sets this one apart. I was pleasantly surprised at the strength of the clip as well as the many different positions it can be placed in. It swivels, pivots and turns and has rubber feet so it doesn't mar any surface. It's great to clip onto a door to move air from one room to another or clip onto an outdoor chair to move the air on your deck. The high speed is a bit too fast for nighttime but the low speed is perfect!

Excellent product!5
The 16 inch fan keeps the air circulating better than a ceiling fan. In warmer weather with the fan going and the windows open the apartment is pleasantly cool and comfortable. I live in the Pacific NW and have a large studio apartment. It keeps the entire living, dining area very comfortable. I've ordered an second one for the kitchen area.It is extremely quiet and efficient. Being wall mounted just below ceiling level,the air from it will not blow directly on your food cooling it quickly as a ceiling fan would. Storage is unnecessary, it remains on the wall year round leaving floor space free, with no cords to trip over. Great product and great price!

Excellent fan5
I installed this in my living room that has a vaulted ceiling. Right now it's 95f with high humidity here in Memphis. It complements the air conditioning well and is as quiet as a fan could be. I like it so much I bought the 12" version to go in my bedroom.

Excellent *and* Adjustable5
I almost didn't buy this because one reviewer wrote it could not be adjusted in anyway. I was pleased during installation to find a cap that easily popped off to reveal a screw that can be loosened to change the angle of the fan. I needed to mount it high and point the fan down slightly. No problem! I also needed to adjust the range of oscillation from dead center to the left slightly, and found another screw that enabled this kind of adjustment. After loosening it slightly, I moved the fan to the left, heard a ratchet-click, then tightened. Presto! This fan is perfect!

IDENTICAL TO FORMER DURACRAFT BRAND MODEL5
I have owned this fan for about 5 years back when K-Mart was also selling them. At that time, it was made by the former Duracraft company. Honeywell has since acquired Duracraft. This model happens to be identical from top to bottom. This includes the fan blades, the protective screen, and the stand. It looks smooth and very modern with its glossy, black finish. It's also easy to take apart and clean. Fan noise is noticeably quieter than many fans out there too. That means you don't have to turn up the TV or the radio to hear over the fan.

I've own other floor fans which have died within a year of purchase, but the Honeywell stand fan I own (which I think I purchased from WalMart about 8-10 years ago) kept going strong. The motor finally died, but the poor fan was so neglected that the dust it collected inside the motor is probably what did it in.

The only difference in this fan and the fan I own now is the color. (Mine is Hunter green.) However, when my fan finally died, I decided to replace it with the exact same model, which I'm purchasing today.

Great fan- Just a little loud4
Had the fan for about three weeks. It has run constantly to equalize temperature between rooms during hot summer months. These fans move a much larger volume of air than the vertical "stick" fans and are far more efficient. However, there are two drawbacks. 1) They take up more space than the vertical fans and 2) they are louder, especially when comparing highest settings.

Brilliant5
Saw it for $11.66 but didn't want to pay for the shipping so I went to True Value and sure enough they had it at the same price. $12.56 total in CA. This fan (Model HASF1675 since amazon never mentioned the number) is exactly what I needed. I have a window fan but unless you're right in front of it it's pretty useless. This was the perfect compliment to it. Placed right in front of the $30 HAWF2043 window fan I got off here, it blows the cool air around perfectly.

Quieter than the other room's Frigidaire AC on High, it does its job really well that my papers actually fell off the desk on the other side of the room. My biggest fear was the wimpy looking stand it has, but somehow it's pretty stable. And by pretty stable I mean VERY stable. My other roommates are jealous now, which says a lot. This room has an incandescent lamp, two 17" CRT monitors and a computer that produces a LOT of heat, yet somehow this thing did the job. Oh yea this is all in Anaheim CA where it was in the 80s I think today.

BTW installation took maybe five minutes to complete. Phillips screwdriver required.

Very satisfied.

Great Fan for the Price4
I bought this fan specifically looking for a white fan thats somewhat powerful that I can take apart and put together everytime I used it. It was to blow around artificial snow from two snow machines. Works great But the only thing I wanted was something a bit more powerful. Everything esle about it was perfect for what I wanted and needed. Kudos to the manufacturer for a great product and an awesome price. You'll be very happy if you use it for a regular fan in your home or office that stays put together.

Superb little fan4
I own two other Vornados- a "mid-sized" model (6xx), and large (7xx). The small continues in the Vornado tradition of excellence, and I'm very pleased with it. It moves air like no other fan of it's size, and appears to be very well made. It's perfect for a small room.

Vornados are not particularly comfortable to have pointed directly at you due to the speed and concentration of the air stream... it's more like an air gun. You are supposed to point them across the room, and they project a beam of air to the opposite end, creating a mild breeze throughout the entire room.

However, this small fan does have a "low" speed setting that is tolerable for direct use, and is very quiet on low. The noise it makes is pleasant... it's worth noting that fan collectors prize each fan's distinctive sound above almost anything else, and Vornado's HQ is home to a museum of vintage fans. They clearly design their fans to create an attractive sound.

However, I will say that the high speed setting is somewhat loud, and a bit more intrusive than the sound of the larger models. The fan blades are spinning quite a bit faster in order to achieve such a massive air movement for such a small unit. However, I don't run mine on highvery often- it works best in a small room on medium or low. It's perfect for our young daughter's bedroom.

About price: in addition to the quality of the construction and design, it's worth mentioning that Vornado actually manufactures in the US... you can be sure these things aren't being built by children in a sweat shop. This certainly makes the more expensive, but I certainly feel better about buying them.

Not as good as previous Vornado compact fans2
Is the new model 530 as good as older Vornados that established the company as a quality innovator? In this review, I compare the new 530 to two older compact models that I own. These are the excellent model 180 compact fan(infinite speed, no longer available) and the very good 510 compact (3-speed and in very short supply - watch out for merchants who substitute the current model 530 for the 510). These (and the larger, venerable model 280) have great features, quietness, quality, and durability. My comments should apply to the model 530 regardless of the color of the plastic case, since color has no bearing on performance in this product.

FEATURES
The 3-speed compact design is similar to that of the older models (note that some slightly more expensive Vornado models have infinite speed control instead of 3-speed but are otherwise the same). But the 530 has one major disadvantage that you're likely to miss in the promo copy. The fan head doesn't tilt as much as those in the older models. This model tilts only about 50 degrees, while the older fans tilt about 80 degrees. The older design is much better at getting air from the floor to the ceiling.

QUIETNESS
The whirring fan blades make as little noise as the older models (whisper quiet on low, moderate amount on medium, a lot of "whoosh" on high), but the 530 has an irritating low-pitched motor noise the older models don't have. Because it's low frequency sound, it will even go through walls.

QUALITY
Personally, I think the motor, because of the noise, must not be up to the quality of previous models. One of the fan blades on my 530 still had plastic from the molding process that hadn't been removed. Definitely a quality-control problem. My older models were all manufactured in the US; this one in China (judging from a recent visit to a store that had a number of Vornado models, the company's moved manufacturing of most, if not all, of their consumer market fans offshore).

DURABILITY
We'll have to see. Comes with a limited 5 year warranty (you must get an RMA and ship to Vornado in Kansas and other reviewers have complained about shipping and handling costs nearly equaling the cost of a new fan).

BOTTOM LINE
In my view, this fan departs from the Vornado tradition of quality and quietness. I don't recommend using the model 530 in a bedroom or other place where you need quiet due to the low-pitched motor noise. Note that the user manual pictures both the model 530 and the R2D2 looking model 630.

Not what they used to be.3
The quality on this Vornado product is not as good as in the past. The product is no longer made in the USA but is instead made in China. Whether or not this is the reason for lower quality I don't know. Like a couple of other reviewers this unit is not not near silent on low speed and unless aimed directly upright has an irritating rhythmic "burmpt, burmpt" to it. On higher speeds this noise goes away but the air noise increases significantly as reported by others. $40 is a high price for a less than perfectly executed small "air circulator."

Great fan, tricky install5
Amazon shipped this item me very quickly and I installed it just today. Installation with this fan was trickier than others I had installed. There were too many screws, literally...I had screws left over and I followed the instructions precisely. The install took about 2 hours.

The fan is very quiet, and the light is sufficient. I wish the light could dim, but I knew it couldn't going into it. I'd check the Hunter website and make sure the blades co-ordinate with your existing decor...the website shows the true colors more accurately than Amazon's pictures.

Quiet tower fan 4
I use several tower fans to move air around my condo. I bought a pair of these Honeywell tower fans last year and have used them non-stop since. They work well, are quiet, move a good quantity of air for their size, and actually provide a bit of filtration as a bonus. (There is a removable filter that won't remove small particles but does catch things like cat hair). My only complaint is that the base that they sit on isn't very solid or weighty and this means the fans tend to wobble a bit. It's not really noticeable unless you bump into the fan, so it's really a minor complaint.

The fan has various settings which I've only used a few of (time delay shut down, oscillation, air speed) all of which can be controlled using the remote. I've not really used the remote much, so I can't really review how well it works.

Overall this is a nice, quiet tower fan. It does what it's supposed to do well, and that's all you can ask.

Cheap Air Conditioning5
I was holding off on buying ceiling fans because of the money and now I don't think I will even bother. After buying one of these and trying it out, I bought two more right away. They are that good. These fans push a lot of air, irrespective of its size. They are comparable in terms of sound and air to ceiling fans. The remote control is just the icing on the cake.

Contrary to the negative reviews here, I couldn't be more pleased with this fan and will highly recommend it others. The first person that saw it now wants one too!

This is a "personal fan" for those that want some pleasing and gentle air movement to keep them cool; it's not a Vornado air exchanger. I have a Vornado fan and it is not something I want blowing on me all the time, nor is it something you can ignore. Those seeking to cool their attics look elsewhere.

If you look at the pictures you'll see that it's small, it has cloth blades, and it doesn't take much thought to know you won't be clearing a room with it. Have you ever found yourself fanning yourself with a magazine or newspaper? If so, you know that it feels pretty good and that's what this fan does, it provides a gentle and pleasant breeze on the low setting and a much stronger breeze on the high setting. Again, it's a "personal fan" designed to provide air movement for individuals, not rooms, groups, or crowds, and it does it extremely well.

The benefits to this fan are:

1) It's almost completely silent. Read in bed, carry on a conversation, or work peacefully at your desk all without being disturbed by fan noise. it has two speeds and the low speed is almost imperceptible. I mistakenly left it on last night because I couldn't hear it.

2) Cloth blades mean you can touch it, or your kids or pets can, without harm.

3) It's very small and folds up even smaller. you can travel with this if you want because it will fit in your suitcase. Try that with a larger Vornado.

4) They look great! I got the black one, but now I want one in all colors just for fun. It's a very stylish and fun little fan.

The negatives to this fan are:

NONE. It's a wonderful fan. Great job Vornado!!!!

An Overpriced, Underpowered Vornado2
The concept is brilliant. Create a folding, portable fan with blades that are completely safe for adults, children and pets. But now for the "sales speak".

The description states "2 speeds for personal comfort; Whisper quiet operation". Neither the high or the low speed kicks out much air; just enough for you to feel a very SLIGHT breeze. This unit is NOTHING like the other Vornado models (of which I am a big fan; pardon the pun) which move tremendous amounts of air.

When I wrote Vornado, their customer rep responded, "I am sorry to learn of your disappointment, your expectations were a little high. The Zippy is a cute Novelty Fan, not at all comparable to the Powerful Circulators we manufacture." Yet from their own website they state, "POWERFUL ELECTRIC MOTOR WITH 2 SPEED CONTROL. Strong enough to move a lot of air in a dorm room, cubicle or hotel room." That simply is not true.

Vornado makes great fans/circulators. This one would be a five star contender if the motor were two or three times more powerful. The reality is you can get more air movement from one of the small desktop fans you can purchase anywhere for less than $10 or $15 dollars.

Just got our new Zippi and are very happy with it. I'm not so keen on the name, but the fan is classic Vornado...innovative, high quality, and above all an air-mover. This little fan is for my wife's desk at her workplace. It's perfect for that setting. Very, very quiet with 2 speeds and a completely adjustable fan head for any blowing angle. Keep in mind that this fan doesn't create the wind-tunnel vortex that other Vornados generate...after all, it is a small fan intended for small spaces. But the unique cloth/nylon blades move more air than I thought they ever would. And the 'blades' completely collapse along side the fan motor housing when you fold the housing into the stand, so it is very compact. The blades are also competely safe to the touch on low or high speeds. It also looks very nice. We have the platinum model and it does have some style. It works exactly the way it should work for the purpose intended. And they put a 3 year warranty on it! Vornado has another winner with this fan.

Love it! Just ordered a 2nd!5
We got one of these a few months ago- it's wonderful! I had originally wanted a Vornado but those were a bit expensive so I decided to give this one a try. It's a very powerful, compact fan- wonderful for those of us with very limited space. It's a little noisy, but all high-speed fans are. Given how powerful it is, it's probably on the quiet side of the high-speed fan category. Its low speed is great for sleeping- in fact we rarely use the higher speeds, even during the day. In summary, we're very happy with this purchase, so happy that we just ordered a second for our son's room.

Edited to add: These fans aren't designed to be cleaned! That's really the only thing I don't like about them--> they are incredibly difficult to clean.

Great Fan - my friend is going to buy one too5
This fan is solid, well-made, versatile and really ventilates the room well, but as with all high velocity fans it is on the loud side, even on low. It has basically three heights: you can use it as a table fan, or you can insert either or both poles to make it medium height or full standing fan height. Be forewarned though that there is a little work in doing this, but it's not difficult.

This fan= PERFECTION!!!5
I purchased my first one of these about 5 years ago and it just recently broke. BUT I used this fan every single day! Even during the winter. And some may ask whay I did this. I need some kind of background noise (white or ambient) in order to get a great sleep. This fan was incredible for this. Plus in the hot summer months it made it feel as if it cooled off the entire room. Being that I used this fan for LITERALLY 365 days a year and the motor takes about 15 mins to get the blades going now, it is not a bad thing at all. If you are in the same room and watching TV or on the phone you might have probs with this fans' noise level but that it what the volume adjustment on those devices are all about. But also heed this warning: if it gets knocked over by accident the top "pole" is useless and strap down anything in this things downwind path because it WILL get knocked over! Overall I LOVE it and that is why I am purchasing another.

Excellent Fan for Office5
This is my first Vornado purchase. I just found about about this brand from a person in my office. She had a smaller unit, but also a smaller office, and it worked very well on the lowest speed.

This thing is _heavy_. It feels very well constructed, and not at all "chintzy" like the usual $20 fans. On the lowest speed it's amazingly quiet from ~5 feet away.

The only thing I dislike is the noise generated by the middle and high speeds--but that's really rather a non-issue, as it's perfectly capable of circulating the air in an entire 10 x 10 room on the low setting.

As my coworker put it, it's an "air circulator" moreso than a fan; you don't point it directly at you. Rather, angle it somewhere else in the room, from a bit away, and the entire room gets a nice, gentle breeze. I was quite skeptical of this idea, thanks to all the inefficient, cheap fans I've purchased over the years, but this idea WORKS. I stay cooler throughout the day--and my papers aren't constantly blowing off my desk Neat!

Overall I'm very happy with this purchase, and would recommend others to consider this over a cheap fan you'll be replacing in a year once again.

This isn't cheap, but I feel I received very good value for the money spent overall.

Don't let the price fool you...this will SAVE you money in the long run!5
I live in an apartment with a window-unit air conditioner, so feeling the cool air can be a bit of a problem. That's where the Vornado comes in. This item is so powerful that it actually CIRCULATES (not just fans) air around the room; you can feel a nice breeze wherever you're sitting! Because of this effect, two things happen when you have your air conditioning on:

1) You can set the thermostat at a higher temperature and the room will actually be cooler than it would be if you didn't have the Vornado and if you had the thermostat set lower!
2) The Vornado circulates the cool air all over the room, so it effectively turns a window unit into a powerful central air unit!

The last tenant who lived in my apartment had a $60 electric bill for May last year...mine was $30. While he had to set the thermostat to 68 to feel the air conditioning, I can set it to 75 and still feel the same effect WITH a cool breeze...all because of the Vornado!

The unit is barely audible on its lowest setting and about as loud as a window unit air conditioner on the highest setting. But don't let this deter you. Even on the lowest setting, you can still feel a difference.

Just bought my second Vornado5
I now have two of these--one in my bedroom, one in my office. I have them running constantly in air conditioned rooms because the movement of air makes the rooms seem significantly cooler. Well made, quiet (not silent), good value.

I'm very familiar with Vornado products and have been using one of their room humidifiers and one of their quiet room heaters for 5 years or more. Vornado is a manufacturer that designs and renders things the right way. The Vornado 630B 3 Speed Mid Size Air Circulator does the work of much larger fans but with a minimum of noise. I know this to be a fact since a short time ago my wife bought two other well known fans at a local store and brought them home. The vornado moves as much air as the other brands Large "Industrial" use fan and obviously at a much quieterlevel. I literally had to turn on the "closed captioning" on my tv when the other brand was running in the farthest back room! And obviously not enjoying much of the fan effect from so far away. The Vornado sits slightly to one side of our entertainment center and about 6 feet away from the user. You can use it on low and it's whisper quiet with a nice directed air pattern. The Vornado 630B 3 Speed Mid Size Air Circulator is adjustable of course, not only three different speeds but it can be aimed in a very wide range of direction including straight up for general room circulation. There are no knobs to tighten and you can accomplish the easy adjustment with a gentle push or pull in the direction needed. The fan is also easily cleaned of dust since the blade cover comes off the fins can be wiped down with just a damp cloth, cover replaces easily without tools and after plugging back in , you're up and running quickly.
I also found that the price was just a few dollars difference from the less versatile fan and the Vornado that is ideal. That to me more than justifies the price. We took the other fan back and have happily been using our Vornado product since.

Fast and silent relief in the heat!5
This fan is great! I bought it for my daughter's un-airconditioned college dorm room that was sweltering in September in the Southern U.S. This fan can really move the air and it is really quiet for sleeping. The competitive brands can't touch it. Don't buy an imitation. This is the real deal and worth every penny!

Better air circulation than other fans4
I do not have AC and was looking for a fan that circulated air better than the standard fan. After testing out a few models, I found that this model of the Vornado produced a noticeably cooler room. I like the slowest speed in that it is very quiet and hardly noticeable.

thank goodness a great fan!5
this fan is just so wonderful, it cools/exhausts my bedroom so quietly and efficiently. It's one more thing that I don't have to worry about. I love the thermostate setting feature, when i leave for work in the morning my room is usually cool enough so that the fan shuts off and will re-start automatically to exhaust the hot air from the room at noontime. If the room becomes too cool at night, the fan will shut itself off! It is so quiet and really gives a good breeze! I bought 2 and my son loves his too!

I didn't intend to have to do this review because I didn't intend to purchase more than one of these fans. I can tell you now that all of these fans are super cheaply designed and built and none of these fans are perfect, but some are far worse than the others.

Holmes HAWF2043 Twin Window Fan: my rating - 3 of 5 stars

I first purchased the Holmes HAWF2043 unit. It was lightweight and fit the window nicely although I had trouble with the extender which is located on the right side. The locks for the extender are located on the right side along the top and bottom edge of the fan, which is supremely stupid because as soon as you place the fan in your window frame and put weight on it, the bottom lock locks and you can not move the extender. I mean, what rocket scientist thought of this? So you have to unlock the locks before you place the unit in the window AND keep weight off the bottom lock until you have the extender adjusted to where you want it. This is not easy. And the lock mechanisms can be difficult to move. At the time, I could not imagine anything worse, but I was wrong as I found out with the extenders on the Honeywell unit, which I will go into in the next paragraph. This Holmes unit has the best placement of the power cord which is in the lower left corner... the location is high enough as not to interfere with the bottom of the window frame. This unit has two speeds, high and low. The controls are easy to operate. In fact, there is only one button and two switches. The button cycles through the high and low manual speed settings and then though the automatic temperature presets which are at 60, 65, 70, 75 & 80 degrees fahrenheit. If you set it at one of the temperature presets, the unit will turn off once the room reaches that temperature. It seemed to work although I did not have the opportunity to see how accurate that function is. The two switches set the direction of the fans to either intake or exhaust which can be done on each fan independently, so you could have one fan on intake and the other on exhaust for quickly exchanging room air with fresh air. This unit has 8.5 inch fans and they are relatively quiet at both speeds, naturally high is louder than low, but don't expect silence. I own a Kill-A-Watt P3 energy meter and this unit used 46 watts on low and 63 watts on high. I would have been happy with this unit except that two days into using it, the right fan started working intermittently. Of course, that is unacceptable. Returning. I give this fan 3 out of 5 stars because I feel that if you get a good one you'll be happy with it, but don't expect anything great. FYI: Holmes is a division of Sunbeam.

Honeywell HW-628 Enviracaire Twin Window Fan: my rating 2 of 5 stars

So with the right fan not working correctly on the Homes, I ordered the Honeywell HW-628. As soon as I saw it, I knew I was not going to be happy with it. For one thing, the unit has 7 inch fans compared with 8.5 inch on the Holmes. So in order to move as much air, the fans would have to run much faster and the unit will be much louder. Time to install... I previously mentioned that the extenders on the Holmes were poorly designed, but the extenders on this were MUCH worse. First of all, this unit has two shorter extenders on both the right and left sides instead of one longer extender like the Holmes has. Second, the four extender locks are, get this, located on the BACK of the unit, the side facing out the window! How are you supposed to set those? It was impossible for me. I ended up jamming the extenders into the window frame in order to keep them extended. Okay, so I finally get the unit in the window and turn it on. I found out immediately that my thoughts about the smaller fans, higher fan speed and noise were true. This thing is LOUD. Super loud. And buzzy. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it is downright unruly. There is no chance you would use this in a bedroom even on low speed. The controls were easy to use although not completely intuitive. There are three speeds available on each fan, low, high and super high. You have to set each fan separately, which is stupid. I cannot imagine a scenario where I would want one fan on high and another fan on low, etc. The temperature setting dial is also extremely stupid. There are no temperature markings. You are supposed to keep the unit on until the room reaches a temperature that you like and then turn the dial until the unit cycles off. Is this 2009? Each fan has its own direction switch for either intake or exhaust. The power cord is located on the bottom center of the front of the unit and its mounted too low so that it interferes with the bottom of my window frame. Who is designing these things? The one feature it had which I liked was that the grilles were directional and could be rotated to direct air in any direction. On the power consumption front, this unit used twice the power as the Holmes! 97 watts on low, 109 watts on high and 120 watts on super high. My unit was defective in that the switches for the right fan are wired incorrectly such that low is high and high is low, but super high is still super high... odd. Returning. I would not recommend this unit. I cannot understand how it has 4 of 5 stars and as of right now, 262 reviews. Incomprehensible.

Bionaire BW2300 Twin Window Fan with Remote Control: my rating 4 of 5 stars

So after the poor experience with the Honeywell (They put their name on that piece of junk? They are a defense contractor!), I purchased the Bionaire BW2300 hoping for better luck. First thing I noticed was the similarity between this unit and the Holmes. That is because they are both made by the same company. Bionaire, like Holmes, is Sunbeam. It has the same right side extender locks as the Holmes, but after the experience with the unusable rear locks on the Honeywell, I was happy to see them! One unwelcome difference is that the power cord is located on the bottom center of the front like it is on the Honeywell, and its also too low like it is on the Honeywell. I mounted the unit in window fairly quickly and turned it on. Its got three speeds, low, medium and high. It uses 8.5 inch fans like the Holmes and it is relatively quiet, although I think it may be ever so slightly louder than the Holmes on high. The controls are all electronic and it has an electronic temperature readout and thermostat. It is very easy to use. Simply choose a fan speed and put the unit into intake, exhaust or one fan on intake and the other on exhaust (air exchange mode). You can use it either in manual mode where there is no temperature control or you can set a temperature for the unit to reach and then turn off (automatic mode). This is easy to do using the simple up and down buttons to the right of the large temperature readout or you can use the remote. Once you set it, it will remember your settings if you turn it of as long as you don't unplug it. The remote control works well and it allows you to control all of the fan's features and functions remotely: on/off, fan speed, air direction, temperature and to toggle between automatic and manual mode. Finally, there is a button to change the brightness of the temperature readout, although you cannot completely turn it off. The power usage was similar to the Holmes. The Kill-A-Watt read 43 watts on low, 49 watts on medium and 64 watts on high. Unlike the most popular review for this unit, my temperature probe was located in its proper track and it seems to work well. I've been using it for three weeks now without issue and so this is the keeper. 4 of 5 stars for this. Its not perfect, but in my opinion, its the best of the three.

The window fan works well for me in the evenings/nights where the outside air temperature drops 10 or 15 degrees but the inside air temperature would stay high, even with all the windows open but without any significant wind or breeze. With the fan on and with the windows and doors set up correctly, the upstairs bedrooms stay within three or four degrees of the outside temp for me without having to turn the air conditioning on.

As far as these fans are concerned, I would say either get the Holmes HAWF2043 or the Bionaire BW2300, but stay far away from the Honeywell HW-628. Good luck!

I was actually impressed with the power. For an inexpensive fan, it does a good job. It's not exactly "whisper" quiet, but it sounds like it should - like a fan. Don't expect perfect silence. Very easy to set up and the one-touch temperature controls are very cool, although mine is always set on high since I'm really, really fat and I sweat all the time. OK, I'm really not fat, just sweaty. Anyway, in my opinion, this a good deal and I would recommend buying it. Gotta love Amazon.com.

Great Item4

Solid Purchase5
While i've only had my new fan a few days, i am pleased
with it. It seems to be both well designed and made
with sturdy stuff. And I like the large knob/switch
located on the back of the motor housing. The large
knob is easy to find, handle and turn, up, down or off,
even in the dark...with one hand.

I bought the unit with power outages in mind, as it
uses much less power than a box fan, and I can run
it overnight on a 400W Xantrex battery
pack. (And sitting or lying in bed during a
blackout, that little fan gives a lot of
psychological comfort, as well as the
physical cooling on a hot night.

I've had a DC powered 6" fan before this, but that
won't trigger the LOW BATT alarm and will drain my
battery pack completey if i leave it go. And it took
two hands to turn it off/on as well. One hand to hold
the inline switch on the cord, and the other to push
the switch to the new position. Yes, i am pleased
with this purchase.

These are terrific little fans! I bought 4 of these to help circulate the air in our RV (& I live in hot, hot Texas!) and these little guys work like crazy trying to do it! Good battery-powered fan4
This fan is excellent for a battery-powered fan. Very powerful compared to other battery models; it will put out enough air to keep you confortable several feet of the fan. It is obviously not as powerful as an AC-powered room fan, but great for what it is. I haven't tested battery lifespan yet (I bought it after Katrina for future hurricane-related power outages), so no opinion there yet.

I'm surprised to see negative reviews. We've been using these for 3+ years now and have no complaints at all.

We use them on our boat in the caribbean. the temps are 80+ w/ humidity at 80+ also. it can get hot and stuffy in the cabin. but not with this fan. it puts out a lot of air for a little fan. and the heavy bottom keeps it from flying around the cabin in rough water or falling over when kicked at night.

We run them every night, all night. batteries last about 2 weeks at that rate (about 125 hours.)but i always carry extras just in case.

Plan on using one (1) per person.

We finally replaced ours after the wiring became disconnected. I couldn't find a way in to that compartment to fix it. but at $14 each, so what.

Bring a cool breeze to where you are going.5
I HAD to review this after reading the only other review for this fan. I am certain I have reviewed this fan for Amazon before, but for some reason don't see it here. I use two of these fans to move air around in my 20x10 Swiss Gear tent while camping in Texas. It is made from plastic and like all other plastic products, it is breakable if you muscle your way to using it wrong, but usage is fairly straight forward. To open the leg, simply swing it down from the back of the fan on its hinge. Opening the battery compartment is fairly simple as well if you understand what lock, and unlock icons mean. The fan moves LOTS of air, and the ones I own have taken plenty of abuse being tossed into and out of the back of my truck for the last two years. My only complaint with them is the battery compartment cover is a little tough to get back on until you figure out exactly how it works, and on high it will suck an expensive set of D cell batteries down in 24 hours. If you use these a lot, I would STRONGLY recommend getting a couple of sets of rechargable D cells and a charger, OR getting the model with the built in rechargable batteries. I like that this model is also available with a transformer that you can use to run it off of 110v power, which makes camping in sites with electricity much less of a drain in the wallet! I rated this fan a 5 as I feel it is the best of its breed. It is NOT to be compared to a corded box fan or anything like that since you do different things with them. But this fan is the absolute best of its kind that I have tried. I have used several different models from Coleman, this thing moves so much more air that there really is no comparison. The Coleman fans simply do not move air like this thing does...

A Decent Fan For The Money4
This fan does blow a really good stream of wind, even at it's lowest setting, although it does so a bit noisely. It's somewhat annoying at night, in one's bedroom, when the fan's noise is a bit intrusive. It sounds sort of like a propellor driven airplane revving up for take-off, although not nearly as loud. I've got another 16" floor standing fan several years old that also blows well, although not quite as brisk as the Honeywell, but is a good bit quieter. I think that the low speed setting on the Honeywell HS-300 is somewhat higher than other fans, hence the noise. The fan's blade design, which is supposed to increase air flow, is also a contributing factor in making this fan noisier than others, I believe.
One negative point is regarding the fan's oscillation feature; there's no button for it on the remote control. One has to pull/push a button on top of the fan housing to activate or deactivate it.
While the noise factor is a slight issue, it's not severe enough to cause me to return this fan.......it does move air around quite well. And, I did get this fan for a decent price directly from Amazon, $34.00, and no shipping charge with Super Saver. Sadly, at the time of writing this review, the fan is only available from another company for $40.00 with a shipping charge of $17.46(yikes!!!).

Powerful fan4
This fan is excellent. It is very powerful even on the lowest setting. The remote and timer are great features. I did extensive research before purchasing a fan and wanted to get this particular one because of the price, trusted brand, and pretty good reviews. One drawback is not really a drawback, more of a luxury but I wish it had remote-controlled oscillation like my previous fan. It is a little bit noisy but that doesn't really bother me. I would recommend this fan to anyone.

My entire family sleeps with a fan beside their bed (Year Round). We already had one of these fans and everyone was fighting over it so we bought 2 more. We are a happy family again! Love it.

Summary: We love this fan!

Can't go wrong with a $20 fan...5
This is probably THE cheapest box fan money can buy. It's also the narrowest fan I've ever seen. This thing probably isn't five inches wide and maybe less than that. Yet it does blow a nice breeze. It's fairly well made and the controls are easy to read (something we baby-boomers appreciate) and the dial-type switch doesn't have a mushy feel, but has distinctive notches so it switches from speed to speed with ease.

It's not too strong and you'll *never* hear anyone yell, "turn that fan down, it's blowing me away!" It's as noisy as you'd expect a $20 fan to be. I like a little white noise when I go to sleep, so this is fine for me. There are some that may find the loud whirring of the motor annoying.

For $20, I'd say it's a real dandy and does a fine job of keeping the air moving. It's a sweet deal and while I've only had mine for two months, I'm fairly well pleased with its performance to date.

We got this fan for our basement and it works great. It really helps circulate the air. We had the same model for a few years and then it started to not work so much, but we ran it 24/7, so it was from over use not the fan. Definalty worth the money:)

A good little fan.
This little fan does just what I need it for. A bit of air blown right at me sometimes while sitting at my desk. It clips on very well. I even tried it on a 1/2 inch overhang and it stayed on. I would reccomend 3/4 inch if you want to use high setting and oscillation. That oscillation is of no account by the way as the fan just is not that powerful. My reason for no 5 stars is the vibration. There is too much especially on high speed. This could have been solved with more and better padding on the clip. It doesn't bother me but might others. The cord is coiled nicely to stay out of the way but has a good stretch. I needed to reverse the blow direction of the fan. This was easily accomplished by removing and replacing only one bolt.
All in all very good for my uses. If you need just a bit of air in a tight space this one's for you.

great deal
i had this fan all during college and my first year of grad school. my exboyfriend kept it so i don't know whether it survives to this day, but for 5 years it put out great cool air even if i had it on all day it was fine. around year 5 the clip-on clip broke, but it still held together well enough to use. i would buy this fan again. it's very powerful for such a little thing, and it's cheap.

Great fan, no complaints so far!
I purchased 2 of these fans over 3 months ago; one to use at work, the other to use at home. Both fans have been working great for me.

At my office, our company has taken on an attitude that everyone should be easily accessible, so there are no cubicles or separations for individuals to be able to control their own area. It's an entirely open office space environment, with over 200 people on the floor and desks about 3 feet apart. The problem is that the floor's temperature controls never seem to be able to get my area to a comfortable level. I needed some extra air flow around my desk. This fan's breeze on even the low setting keeps me cool, even when the floor's temps get a little uncomfortable. I am a programmer who has to stare at an LCD monitor all day, so having the oscillation is nice because I don't get a totally constant breeze blowing on me that would otherwise dry out my eyes.

In over 3 months using both fans, they have worked perfectly. Both fans have been very quiet; providing a sufficient breeze, and so far seem to be built rather sturdy! I have had no problem with the holding clips either. For the price and how well they have worked for me so far, I can easily recommend them to others to try.

Spectacular
Oh, man: So this fan comes in one, 40lb box and you will have to assemble it. I would rate the assembly as a bit harder than average, but (in my opinion) the reason for this is because it is very, very well made (and heavy).

After assembly you will have what I feel to be the most well made, attractive, sturdy, and quiet (except for wind noise which... what'cha gonna do?) fan on the market. This is a great buy and works great as well as being much cheaper than one that I purchased from Restoration Hardware.

UPDATE (4/28/09): I have used this fan pretty much every day since my original review in 2007 and I still have no issues. One good thing I have found is that the front "screen" is removable and makes cleaning the blades very easy.

Big beauties work hard and run cool and QUIET!
Large, beautiful, QUIET and effective. We love the soft background drone of a great fan. Reminds me of being a kid in the 1950's. We use these to cut down on air conditioning costs: They pay for themselves if they cut just a couple AC weeks out of your summer, so every other use of them is a free ride. For example, they are vital for canning season, to help the hood and the windows to push out the heat and humidity and to pull in cooler outside air. We even set one up in front of the treadmill to use year 'round for indoor jogging comfort.

This is a large, heavy-duty home-use fan - I bought two and also use a couple Hunter table fans. These pedestal fans are beautiful. It is a brushed nickel finish, but very finely done so it is nearly a satin polish appearance instead of the crude job typical of brushed nickel. It has a cast iron base plate weight (ultra-stable and zero wobble) and quite a few pieces for the assembly. Assembly was very easy (regardless what the nut-jobs claim), excepting for just one aspect: I had a devil of a time getting the nickle base shroud to thread on over the iron base plate on both fans and the replacement fan. I complained to Hunter about it. This is just a machining alignment problem - easy to fix at the factory, if they only try.

One of the two fans failed to oscillate properly, but Hunter Fan Company promptly sent me a free replacement, so I have two great pedestal fans for very little trouble. Far and away my best customer service experience of the last several years.

Operation has been faultless over the last fourteen months with almost 100% operation during the hot months and limited winter use. Go get 'em!!!

First order broken, but company was very helpful in getting a replacement
The first time we got this item the band around the fan (I believe the safety feature) wouldn't fit because part of the fan was bent. We contacted the company and they immediately sent us a replacement fan. While it was a hassle, the fan works nicely. The lowest setting you can't even hear when on. But the higher the setting, the more noise it makes. I still love it.

Saved from the hot spell
When it came time to turn my neighbor on to this fan I was distressed to read the two reviews that were already published (both from purchasers who obtained theirs from other stores?). Last year I purchased two of these for my apartment in San Diego . . . and then the longest, hottest two weeks that we have seen in years hit. These two were operating 24/7, moved around a lot, etc. and worked flawlessly. They never got put away and I have used them to circulate air during the Winter as well and they are still cooking along flawlessly. That's not one, but two, and they work and last great!

Most Quiet Tower Fan
We purchased a Honeywell Tower Fan and this Lasko fan. We use the Lasko in the bedroom. What a difference it is from a box fan. It is very very quiet. The sleep setting is perfect because you can choose how long to have it running after you go to bed. Even if we keep it on all night, I wake up in the morning not feeling like I've listening to a fan roar all night long. We can't use it on ocillate - it makes a sound when it goes back and forth. Even so, it still gives us both (and 2 dogs!) plenty of direct air flow without the ocillation feature. I JUST bought another for my office.

At this Price - Take it apart and fix it yourself
We got this fan a few months ago. I read the reviews and was concerned about the temp gauge not working but for the price I gave it a shot anyway. I asked the sales man about the return rate for the produce and he said that not a one had been returned (I didn't really believe him but went ahead with the purchase anyway).

Sure enough I plugged it in and the temp started rising, went up to HI and stayed there. Other than that the fan was great. Quiet, strong, the remote worked good. I went back to the store and saw that the display model was doing the same thing. I couldn't believe that they would design the unit in such a way that the circuits would heat up the thermometer. I figured that some poor kid in the factory had missed a step in the assembly process.

Last night I took it apart and found the thermometer wire. It was laying across the circuit board. All I did was move the wire thermometer away from the circuit board and when I put it back together and plugged it in, it worked like it should have in the first place. Took less than 20 minutes to fix it.

Bionaire Quality Control really slipped on this one. 5 stars for a good product, minus one for the trouble.

If you want to fix it here is how I did it, but if you break yours I accept no responsibility. The instructions state "Do NOT attempt to repair or adjust any electrical or mechanical functions on this unit. Doing so will void the warranty."

UN-PLUG THE FAN. Unscrewed all the screws in the back (7 total I think). Then use a flat-head screw driver to open it from the side that doesn't have the built in extender. I couldn't figure out how to open it all the way but was able to open it about 35 degrees, like a clam, and remove the plastic cover that shields the circuits. The thermometer is the white plastic wire that is only attached to the circuit board on one end, not the round metal thing with a hole in the middle, that is the speaker. I stretched the thermometer wire out to the side, away from the circuit board and the put it back together.

Quiet and smart
This fan is of great value. It will quietly refresh your room during a warm summer night, allowing you to sleep and benefit from air circulation in those houses where there is no central air conditionning. It has 3 speeds and 3 air flow settings (In, Out, Exchange: one fan works in and the other out to exchange the room's air with the outside air) to rapidly get the room to the desired confort level.

It also has an Automatic mode that controls the fan's operation until the desired temperature is reached. This feature is not ideal since it will have the fan starting and stopping every 2-3 minutes when the temperature rises back to above the desired temperature.

Altogether, I am very satisfied with this fan, even though I do not use the Automatic feature. It is exceptionnaly quiet I find and the air flow features get the job done in no time.

ok. maybe i'm picky
I agree with the other reviewer. it's a nice looking fan, forty bucks cheaper AND measurably quieter than the one at restoration hardware. nice deal. one little thing, though. there's a click-click at a certain point on the rotation. every time it hits that point--click-click. i returned one and replaced it with another, got it home and same thing--click-click. even at the same point on the turn. it's like a slow steady drip on a faucet. some people can ignore it. me...it drives me crazy.

UPDATE -- 5 STARS -- tried yet another much more expensive fan that was too loud, returned it, bought THIRD Hunter Fan from LNT, same problem--click-click, was done with Hunter, shot off a quick email on their website just to let them know of the defect, turns out they have pretty decent customer service, sent me another fan, NO CLICKS, at least not in the time that i wd have normally started hearing clicks. if you don't hear from me again, i'm happy and you can consider this fan, in my opinion, stylish, the quietest of the many I've tried, and at a good price.

I'm a big fan
I'm thrilled with this metal fan from Hunter, all the more so when I compare it to other small- to medium-sized oscillating fans. The construction is sturdier and the appearance is appealing and clean. While not totally silent, the "whispering" motor is not bothersome. Even on the first (of three) speeds, the fan is effective. In short, I'm delighted. Hurray for Hunter.

Strong, stable, & silent
This fan functions well at all three speeds: ocean breeze, tropical storm, and hurricane. I've run this fan 24/7 for several months and continue to be extremely pleased with its durability. It sits on the edge of a shelf, very sturdy, stable, and nostalgically fashionable. While oscillating a full 180 degrees or shooting a straight stream of cooled air, it continues to run quietly. Like every other oscillating fan I've owned, this fan will click when it reaches the end of its oscillation cycle if the switch is not completely engaged: simple solution = finish pushing/pulling switch. :) I strongly recommend Hunter's 12-inch table-top fan.

Nice quiet fan.
I bought this fan to help cool the guts of our 5 year old Toshiba rear projection TV. The TV has had to be fixed several times and the components that are going bad are on a heat sink which leads me to believe they're burning up prematurely do the excessive heat.

This fan was recommended by my brother who also uses one to cool his home theatre and gave me rave reviews on the amount of air it moves and the amount of noise - or lack thereof.

It's a pretty heavy fan for it's size and I think it moves a pretty good amount of air despite of some of the other reviews. It's ideal for cooling stereo and home theatre components due to it's smaller footprint and the ability to tilt it up and down. Air is taken in through a series of small holes on each of the fan. This is what some call a "squirrel cage" fan. It has a long cord and a knob on the back for OFF, LOW, and HIGH.

It's quiet enough that we don't notice it when watching TV.

Its a fan...
It works for what I want. Its small and fits on my desk well. On low it makes hardly any noise. On high it sounds like any other fan would. Its made of cheap plastic, but as long as it works, thats all that really matters.

Quiet, perfect for office use
I keep this fan at my desk at work, and I think it is perfect for that. The Low setting is practically silent (similar noise to some CPU fans). It doesn't move a ton of air at this setting, but it is definitely sufficient for an office where we have AC anyway. My one complaint would be that the High setting is significantly louder, so I keep mine on Low all the time.

Quiet 2-speed fan works great
I purchased this fan for my daughter because her west-facing room gets especially hot in the evenings, even with A/C on. We had another fan that was too loud for her and that vibrated terribly when we placed it up high enough so she could feel the wind from it. This fan was the perfect solution! We clipped it on her bed and she can adjust it herself from off to high or low. It is the quietest fan in our house by far and she can still hear her Mozart good night music, which we play quietly, over the fan. The fan is easy to angle or adjust as well and the clip is strong once you've placed it so it stays in place. We are really happy with this purchase and my husband who can't stand to hear a pin drop is considering getting one for himself.

Powerful for a Desk Fan
Despite its compact size, cute name, and skinny blades, this fan is a surprisingly serious air-mover.

The reason is that the almost delicate-looking blades are steeply raked and at either speed (think "high" and "higher") they deliver a tightly focused breeze. The tradeoff is turbulence-induced noise from higher fan tip speed (perhaps also from their interaction with the spiral outlet guide vanes).

The cooling effect is quite directional, with a narrow sweet spot. At arm's length it concentrates cooling air on face and neck without buffeting paperwork in your hands. It may be more breeze than you want, but in a hot climate or without air conditioning, it might be just the thing.

Unlike style-first, whisper-quiet desk fans designed to disappear into the background, this little fan is a throwback: it just likes to move air.

It Works
I use this in the car on hot days and have been using it for a few weeks now. So far so good.

What I like about it:

--It's good at moving the air and creating a nice breeze, even on low speed
--It's quiet, even on high speed
--It can be used with rechargeable batteries, and because it takes batteries, that makes it great during a summertime power outage which is another reason I bought it
--You can aim it (up or down angles)
--AC power option (have to provide your own adapter)
--It's cheap!
--Shipped fast

What I don't like about it:

--Because of the batteries, it's pretty heavy for it's size, so not easily portable
--Made of a cheap-feeling plastic
--You can aim it but the plastic clicks pretty loudly while doing so
--It's a little big, which is technically a pro and con for me; bigger means more air moving, which is great, but it also means I can't easily store it where I use it (in the car)
--Shipping cost rivaled the cost of the fan itself and the package wasn't adequately padded

All said, I'm pretty happy with this fan and plan to buy another as a backup.

Good little fan if it is built right.
I purchased one of these fans, but they accidentally sent me two of the fans in the mail. The first fan I tried was terrible. The air flow from the fan was very weak. It also made a lot of noise and vibrated a lot. The second fan I tried worked much better. It was nice and quiet. The air flow was much stronger. When I look at the bad fan I saw that its fan blades were pressing against the motor housing. This fan works well if it is built correctly, but it appears that the quality for this company is inconsistent.

Great Little Fan
I bought this fan back in 1996, my first year in college. I needed something inexpensive to move air because I slept on the top bunk in my dorm room and the heat just stagnated up there. I actually suspended it from some pipes that went overhead through the room and it blew from my head toward my feet. I still have this fan and it's still quiet and works excellent. I'm surprised they still make the exact same fan. Now that I know, I'm thinking about buying several more.

Excellent Fan with Easy-To-Use Front-Mounted Controls
I own three of these, and I may buy another one just in case they ever stop making it. I especially like the convenience of the front-mounted control switch. I wish more fan manufacturers used front-mounted controls because it's so much easier to use. I can't stand loud fans, and I find this one to be relatively quiet. I keep one on my desk at work, and the guy in the next cubicle says he can't even hear it. It would be better if you could change the angle of the airflow, however. And I would also prefer some neutral colors that blend into the background better such as tan or white. That said, it's still a great little fan for the price.

A good fan can make the difference between a sleepless and a restful night. Soleus Air's FTY-25 10-inch table fan has three speeds and a five-finned blade--five fins move more air than the traditional four--to help make a hot, stuffy room feel much cooler. Very quiet, including a very quiet timer
This fan is whisper quiet, even at the highest speed. The tilt function is useful -- it tilts at a 45-degree angle, so it's necessary to reposition the entire fan as to direction once you have it tilted to aim it where you want the air to go.

The rotating grille, at first, looks symmetrical. On closer inspection, each successive louver changes angle as they move around the circle of the grille. Thus, when you turn the grille rotation feature on, the air sweeps in a wide conical pattern as it moves away from the fan. If you want the air to go in a particular direction, you can leave the grille rotation switch in the off position and rotate the grille by hand until the air is blowing in the direction you want.

I actually use the two-hour timer feature a lot. The exhaust fan in my bathroom is ineffective, so when I shower, I leave the door open and have a fan blowing into the bathroom so that moisture doesn't cling to the walls and cause mildew. After the shower, I keep the fan on for two hours to make sure the entire bathroom dries out. My tile stays mildew-free a lot longer when I do this. I can leave for work with the fan running.

During a heat wave, when it cools off at night as it does here, I set the fan in my window, up against the screen, to bring cool air inside. At bedtime, if it's still a few degrees too warm, I keep the fan on and use the 2-hour timer so it doesn't stay on all night.

This is the quietest fan I've ever owned, though not the most powerful. It's great for smaller rooms, especially the bedroom at night when it's warm. The timer is absolutely quiet. (If you happen to get one that ticks loudly as another reviewer did, it's defective and you should exchange it for another one.)

One other nice thing is that you can mount this fan on a wall or on a door jamb, high up and out of the way. There are a couple of key-hole shaped screw holes in the bottom of the feet to accept mounting screws. Very useful if you have a situation where you need the fan in a permanent place and you want it out of the way -- I'm going to mount it on the wall just outside my bathroom for just this reason and buy a second one for the living room, to use on the window sill.

A wonderful fan!
I'm very puzzeled by another poster's comments about the "ticking timer". With the timer dial turned fully counter-clockwise (marked 'ON', meaning constant running/no timer), the spring in the mechanical timer runs out of steam after maybe 15 minutes and the fan is one of the quietest I've ever had.

I originally bought this fan because of the wall-mounting feature, which I needed to equalize the air conditioning in my home. I planned to mount it in a doorway. Before I had time to hang it, I stuck it on top of the TV at the foot of my bed and it hasn't moved since!!! The rotating grill gives a nice, gentle, cool breeze every 30-45 seconds. Love it!

I could do without all the plastic, but this fan did hard time last summer and hasn't let me down this season. It needs a serious vacuuming, frankly.

Other fans from this manufacturer appear kinda cheezy, but the FTY-25 is a winner.

Ticking Timer
The Soleus FTY-25 is a quiet fan with a noisy timer.

We use fans at night to create a soft breath of air as we go to sleep. For this purpose, "quiet" is good. We live in the country and the natural sounds are pleasant and actually reassuring. "White noise" is unneeded.

Except for the timer, the Soleus is a good, quiet solution. The timer makes a fast ticking noise like some older kitchen timers.

A complete explanation of the Soleus controls and operation is surprisingly wordy. I'll try to cut it short...

The timer is mechanical. Once the timer dial is turned, the mechanism will tick for the maximum period that it was turned to, even if turned off in the meantime. In other words, if the dial is moved to the 2 hours position and then immediately moved back to "off" (even unplugged), then when the fan is turned back on the next day (even to just the untimed "on" position), it is going to tick for 2 hours.

The Soleus can be made to operate quietly. Just never move the timer dial to a timed-setting position.

Since we don't care about a timer when we are awake and can't use it to go to sleep, we taped the timer to the "on" position. With the timer dial in the "on" position, the fan can be turned off and on with the Fan Speed Switch, which has an "off" position, or with a quiet external electronic timer.

For those who want a smallish fan that moves a lot of air, the Vornado 550B moves more air. Unfortunately, the 550B has a variable speed controller that hums like an old fluorescent light, which makes it unacceptable to those who want a truly quiet low-speed fan.

Not a Vornado, but gets the job done
This fan is neither as powerful nor as quiet as the Vornado fan it tries to imitate, but compared to some of the other fans on the market today, the Honeywell Mega Turbo is pretty darn good. It moves an impressive amount of air, is solidly constructed, and comes with a reassuring 5-year warranty.

UPDATE: I just discovered that this fan cannot be taken apart for cleaning. I would change the rating to two stars if I could.

Where have you BEEN all my life??
I am ADDICTED to fans, I simply cannot stand sitting in a room with stagnant air and fell in love with this monster before it was even out of the box. It moves air like a jet engine, has made living in a large & somewhat airless house tolerable and the noise of the engine & blades does wonders to dampen the noise made by the delightful young lady who lives upstairs. Stereo sound coming through the floor?? Turn on the fan, drag it next to you and it all blends into the night. If I had any complaints about it the would be that the thing is so comparatively powerful that it needs a good cleaning every month because it sucks up dust like magnet, and has actually proven a bit too effective in moving air during chilly weather when I've been to baked to just point it upwards to simply circulate air & create a white noise background.

So in other words it does exactly what it's designed to do and I just need to vacuum more often but what the hey, I'm a guy, you know? I'd rather just clean a fan once a month that do house chores, there's valuable time saved right there. The cost is modest enough for anyone to really be able to afford it, and along with a single window AC has kept this house cool, comfortable and livable ever since I got it. I'll never buy another window/box fan ever again, the fan grilles come off easily for cleanings with something like a dish brush in the kitchen sink and I can sleep soundly even with whatever god forsaken music my upstairs neighbor has on repeat while she's doing whatever chicks do with music on repeat. Honestly, the same damn song over and over again for an hour ... you gotta wonder.

If you are looking for silent cooling options to maintain the tomb like quiet in your abode or workplace this might not be the thing for you, I'd recommend placing your feet in a bucket of ice instead, or maybe moving to Nome, Alaska & just leaving the window open. For anyone else this is a great fan, fabulous design and it is powerful enough so that you could attach it to an ironing board with a washtub to sit in and fly with it, just like on Scooby-Doo.
